There was no OW/OM drama, just a sweet love story. Yes, it was very insta-love, but it worked. From the very beginning, Cash was very protective of Brielle and there was also a weird feeling that they knew each other, even though they have never met. Honestly, this story is more creepy than scary. There is a murder mystery going on, and let me tell you, the killer is a whack job. You do get to read the killer’s POV too, which also helped with the “creep o factor”. I am anxiously awaiting book 2, which I think may revolve around the middle sister Millie. I have some unanswered questions that I hope will be explained in the next book.

Favorite Quotes: “It’s a hell of a first date,” Millie mumbles. “I mean, most people just get naked and have sex and then regret their life choices in the morning. This is on a whole different level.” I smirk and then shrug. “The night’s not over yet.” “For you,” she says to Cash, passing him a coffee. “There’s a protection spell in there.” “Does it have eye of newt?” he asks, flashing a smile. “Not this time,” Millie replies with a wink, making Cash’s smile slide from his face. My Review: I’m not much of a paranormal reader but I’ve recently discovered this smooth and talented wordsmith named Kristen Proby and thought I’d give it a perusal. Somewhere on page one, her cunning word voodoo sucked me right into her character’s vortex while her strong and crafty juju held me enthralled. I was spellbound by her well-crafted and shrewdly plotted tale. The engaging storylines and writing were absorbing and swirling with atmosphere and cast with oddly intriguing characters. I couldn’t put my Kindle down despite the chilling and gruesome nature of the crimes depicted. It was spine-tingling. I am definitely hooked and while I may not be much of a paranormal reader, I certainly seem to be one when Kristen Proby throws it down.

This spooky paranormal romance contains many elements of a creepy, twisted story that will stick with you and make you wonder why you’re reading it at night. The characters she creates are so complex, completely believable, and leave the door open for a series of books based on the trio of sisters and their unique abilities. She not only gives us a little touch of the paranormal, but she also involves mystery and suspense. The romance is a fabulous connection and I love that it was just an assumed relationship and leaves out the angst that sometimes goes with two people trying to enjoy each other. Cash and Brielle are amazing together. He is completely supportive of her throughout the entire book even though believing her had to have been a stretch. Just knowing you were meant to be together is powerful and you totally get that in the story. Proby definitely has a winner in this fabulous new series kicking off with Shadows. A magically written story full of so many different elements that keeps your interest high and your nerves on alert. Spooky, creepy, sexy, and so dang compelling. I cannot wait to see what else she brings when the next book comes available! * copy received for review consideration Full Review - https://amidlifewife.com/shadows-by-k...

2.5-3 stars So this was my first Kristen Proby.. And don't kill me but I wasn't bowled over by it.. Typically any book that is set in New Orleans I see, I pick up. I think I watched The Big Easy way too young and it imprinted on me. Anywho, I liked the characters and setting but I constantly felt that it's a spin-off of other works. The writing felt almost simplistic with the explanations coming in too late after I assumed what they were and pushing the suspension of disbelief to the max. The writing felt almost simplistic with the explanations coming in too late after I assumed what they were and pushing the suspension of disbelief to the max. For example the relationship between Brielle and Cash was sweet but I really couldn't understand how he never doubted her and believed her straight away about all the supernatural things she could see. They both feel the attraction immediately and jump in to an ultra serious relationship within a day. I know it's all magic and supernatural and past lives, soulmates and all but it still happened too fast for me. I also had the impression the author watched many crime/serial killer documentaries. Not that it's a bad thing just felt heavily influenced by them... Overall, it was ok. I kind of liked it, it just didn't entirely work for me. Obviously, from others reviews it's a me issue so do look up other reviews too.

4.25 chill bump raising stars! Now I need book 2! How’s it just gonna end like that?! I can’t believe this is Kristen’s first pnr book! Such a gothic, bone chilling, creepy read. This is brilliant !! I'm in shock at how much I luvd this book. I was a lil scared when I read the blurb for this book. Normally when it comes to this author I never have to. But when there is PNR mentioned I just don't go near it. It's really not my thing but this book was amazing. It's not really PNR with shifters and vampires it's more witches and powers really. Which I didn't mind at all and it was written so well so that really helped. I just luvd the story and the characters in so glad This is brilliant !! I'm in shock at how much I luvd this book. Which I didn't mind at all and it was written so well so that really helped. I just luvd the story and the characters in so glad I have this book a go. This book is Brielle's book and she is the older sister out of the 3. All the sisters have different strength and together they are really strong. I luv how close they are and at time it is hard on them but they protect each other the best way they can. Brielle is a great character I really liked her straight away and the connection together her and Cash is strong straight away I really liked there Insta luv. They were so protective of each other from the start. But there was an evil goin around that needed to be stopped. And between them both they were taking it down no matter what they had to do. Cash is a profiler for the FBI and has seen some scary stuff but what's happening around the Bayou is crazy. When he finds out that Brielle is getting dragged into he has to protect her. But Brielle is super independent her life has been easy. Her and her sister have been throw so much it's scary to think they had to deal on there own. But these sisters are the strongest women ever and they will fight whatever they have to with Cash right be there side. No one will take this perfect woman away from no matter what. I luvd this book so so much. Everything about it was really good I couldn't get enough of the story and the characters. I'm really looking forward to more from this series. Like I said I don't do PNR and I wouldn't really call this book PNR to be honest. It's still not made me want to try PNR again it just isn't my thing. But I knew I would enjoy this book from this author. Her writing is brilliant the detail in it from the start to the end was so good. I'm so glad I read this book and didn't leave. I would of kicked myself if I hadn't given it a try. I would highly recommend it.

So many things worked really well for me with this book and I am glad I made the decision to give it a try. I loved the premise of this story. There are three sisters that all have extraordinary abilities. The focus is on the oldest sister Brielle in this book but we do get a chance to see the sister's powers in action and learn some of their past. The three sisters all have different abilities. Brielle is able to see ghosts. She lives and works in New Orleans giving ghost tours to tourists and some locals. When she starts seeing recent murder victims, she knows that there is a killer on the loose. I loved the mystery and paranormal aspects of the story. I have to admit that there were parts of this book that were a lot more graphic than I had expected...and I couldn't have been happier about it because I love a good twisted story. The things that were happening to the women he was taking was almost hard to even think about. The bad guy in this one is a pretty sick case. I was so eager to find out who was responsible and what his motivations were. I thought that the way that Brielle was able to use her gift to help the women was rather imaginative. Unfortunately, I did have some issues with the story. The romance is this story completely depends on insta-love. Cash see Brielle and decides he is for her. I can sometimes deal with insta-love if the couple has a lot of chemistry but I wasn't feeling that here. Don't get me wrong, I liked both Brielle and Cash quite a bit but they way they jumped into a relationship so quickly without even sharing a kiss just felt off. I decided to just go with it and enjoy the story but the romance always felt like the weakest part of the book. I would recommend this book to readers who don't mind insta-love romances. Ultimately, I enjoyed the mystery and paranormal elements in the book so much that I wasn't too bothered by the issues I had with the romance. I do want to read the rest of the series to see what will happen to the other two sisters! I received a digital review copy from the publicist and have voluntarily left this review. Initial Thoughts I liked it but the insta-love felt off. I liked the essential mystery and ghost story. These sisters were awesome and I loved their abilities. I didn't feel as much chemistry between Brielle and Cash as I would have liked to see.

One for both the two other sisters. We were left with just a tease for the next book. We have to complete "The Six". I am absolutely in! I think KP is just getting her PNR sea legs. I'm betting the next two books will be even better than this one. All three sister have their own unique and interesting gift. Can't wait to see how this all plays out. This was a perfect Halloween read! Happy reading!!

DNF REVIEW This pains me very much, but this synopsis and all the teasers leading up to the release of Shadows read like a thriller. It read like it was going to grip me and have me seeking comfort with my sheets pulled up to my nose (you're welcome for the visual) while I shook next to my husband. Uh....nope. Unfortunately, this one was most definitely a miss for me. I like true crime novels. Have an entire shelf dedicated to them. I love the mystery that surrounds them and the depravity that is found in the human mind. That always makes me want to see things deeper, heavier, understand more of the 'why' aspect of said depravity. So when this one came out and the foreword told me to make sure the lights were on - I was seriously giddy for a very welcome thriller-type read from Kristen Proby. But, again - nope. Some inconsistencies. Some eyebrow raising moments of huh were in there. Like, how can you not believe in past lives? YOU see ghosts/apparitions, your sister is psychic and a witch, while your other sister is psychometric. Uh, do you hear yourself?? I don't understand it. That seriously made NO sense to me. Not one lick of it. This was not scary. This wasn't even creepy. It honestly felt like a mixture of children's stories like Goosebumps and Sweet Valley High girls. All sweet and somber, but oooh - some paranormal activity *giggle*. That's what I felt and I wanted so much more. Something grittier, heavier, or even scarier. Gory? Just something that made this worth the mystery that's been surrounding it since I heard about it. Instead, I got a fluffy insta-love that didn't have any depth within the actual story - all surface story without background, no build-up to the feelings that the characters were feeling (we found out later why Cash and Brielle felt as strongly as they did), and lackluster craziness from "HIM" that did nothing more than add a cringe-worthy side to a madman. Kristen's writing started out fun in this one, I won't lie - but I just don't think it was the style that worked for this genre. For me. She's a light read in general, but I was hoping for more grit and depth with this trope/genre. I'm still a wet-behind-the-ears PNR reader, so it was a somewhat new experience for me and so the excitement for the possibility of goosebumps had me rushing toward this one. This just wasn't my cup of tea. While it started out great, it just didn't keep up for me and as much as I wanted to love it, I just couldn't. I'm so sad this didn't work because the idea of it was full of promise for me. ~BEE ARC REVIEW - No giveaway for DNF reviews.

This was Proby’s first paranormal/thriller book and I’m having a hard time believing that. The way she wrote this didn’t come off as her first time writing in this genre. Please be aware of the trigger warnings I put at the end of my review. Most things don’t bother me, but there were some scenes that made me take pause and come back. Character-wise I liked everyone that we met. Especially Brielle and her sisters! I loved the idea of three sisters all have different gifts living in New Orleans. The bond between them and reading about them in their different elements was really interesting. I could be biased since witches in threes are my favorite. i.e. (Charmed, the Sanderson sisters, etc) We did have a romance here between Brielle and Cash. They met and felt like they knew each other before. Maybe in a past life? I need more information on that. Anyway, while I did like them together, I can say that I wish we got a little bit more actual romance scenes between them. There are a lot of moments of finding a killer but not so much between them actually getting to be on their own. I’m glad this is a series because there are things that I need more information on. Character’s backgrounds and more information about the prophecy of things. From the way this book ended, I’m left wanting more and can’t wait to be in Millie’s POV in the next book. If you are in the mood for a gothic and gory type story, then I would give this a try! TW: talk of rape; graphic death and torture; abuse Blog | Instagram | Twitter

Shadows is Kristen Proby's first attempt at paranormal romance/suspense and I am quite surprised. This definitely reads completely different than any of Kristen contemporary romance books and I think that was the biggest surprise. I applaud Kristen for stepping outside of her normal genre but I have to praise her for truly outdoing herself. Kristen does a superb job of the world building in this mystical city with all the musings of witches, warlocks and the like. I love how she tactfully handles the inst-love aspect and intertwines that into the sisters' world - nicely done. Shadows is book one in the Bayou Magic series and you can easily see that the story of these three sisters is going to be a dark, twisted and complex one but extremely intriguing. The story flows a great pace - fast enough to keep things moving, but slow enough to understand how things come together - it's a great blend. Kristen blew me away with this book. This nothing like her other books and I love that. Kristen does bring her romance musings to this book but it's the world building and paranormal aspect that truly take the forefront of this book and I couldn't be happier. Bravo for Kristen for surpassing my expectations and writing a PNR book that will have PNR fans begging for the next book!

I found the relationship superficial and racing, thrown loose in the book. I couldn't connect with the romance between the characters, so I think that was missing here. I will read the next book? Of course, after all the dynamics between the sisters and the paranormal pilot were good and made me want to read the next books. I Received an unreleased copy of this book

The Delight I wanted to get back to reading Kristen Proby's books. Her stories seem to be great, but sometimes the bedrooms scenes are over the top to many or really behind a door for us to only imagine. That is the balance I am missing when I read her stories. So if you ignore the bedroom parts of romance, this book has some really horrifying suspense that will leave your crossing yourself! Review Brielle is your normal everyday tour guide of haunted buildings in New Orleans. Ok, I lied. She isn't normal at all, but she tries hard to be. Since a young age, Brielle has seen shadows, or ghosts of people who have passed. She's learned to block her mind from outside forces and keeps to a strict route and schedule for her tours so she doesn't get involved surprised by new hauntings in a town with a lot of them. Her life was never great. Growing up with her two sisters who also have special powers, she has learned to adjust. When Cassian is force to take a leave of absence from his FBI profiler job, he goes to visit his brother in New Orleans. He takes a haunted tour and becomes facinated with Brielle. Comfortable like he has known her forever. Attracted. Maybe they were lovers in a previous life. He doesn't believe in the paranormal and really hasn't had anything to test that theory. When Brielle and Cash start showing up in the same spots, sparks fly and they really find they are attracted to each other. But dead women start showing up in the shadows trying to talk to Brielle. They all look like Brielle, well, from what she can see since the murder tortures these women beyond what I want to describe in this review. Cash wants to protect Brielle, and Brielle wants to protect Cash. The two fall into an insta-love kind of situation that really is never explained to my satisfaction. There are elements of witches and curses. Things that can't be explained. Or at least in the real world can't be. How do you hunt for a killer when the world isn't part of the paranormal world and would think you were crazy. The Good: This made for a great October scary book. The evil is truly evil and you get their POV from time to time. The Bad: The sex. Oh, my. For the most of the part it happened behind a closed door. It wasn't as if they were prudish. The first time only goes so far into the sex and just moves onto the next chapter. It left a lot to be desired. Literally. The Off Putting: The evil is real and it is violent. Graphic to a point, but also letting you mind make up what they did. It is really creepy. There were elements that were not quite explained, but there are more books in the series, so I expect that they might get answered later on. Like the insta-love - it just didn't play out. This story was more a thriller/horror/paranormal story than a love story. The couple gets along way to easily and the conflict mostly comes from the big evil. If you are looking for a scary story, this is it. If you are looking for a deeply passionate story, keep looking. If you want a easy love, big bad guy...Yep this will do it for you. Brielle and her sisters Millie and Daphne have always had strange abilities but it was only when they were older and able to escape the abusive home that they grew up in that they were able to find another witch to teach them how to use them. Living in New Orleans Brielle's connection to the dead has caused her no end of trouble and she sees the shadows of ghosts wherever she goes. It's only recently that these shadows have started to appear as real people that are able to communicate though and Brielle and her sisters Millie and Daphne have always had strange abilities but it was only when they were older and able to escape the abusive home that they grew up in that they were able to find another witch to teach them how to use them. Living in New Orleans Brielle's connection to the dead has caused her no end of trouble and she sees the shadows of ghosts wherever she goes. It's only recently that these shadows have started to appear as real people that are able to communicate though and, with a serial killer targeting young women who look just like her, now they're reaching out to Brielle for help. FBI profiler Cash is only in the city on forced vacation after working a difficult case but he's enjoying spending time with his brother and he finds himself drawn to Brielle from the minute they meet. He's not sure what to make of it when she mentions her abilities but when a young woman they've both met goes missing he agrees to help her liaise with the local police to try and help with their investigation. The two quickly find themselves drawn into a dark and disturbing case and it looks like Brielle may be a target for the killer. Shadows is my first Kristen Proby book but it won't be the last and I'm already looking forward to getting to know Brielle's sisters better as this series continues. I found all three of them really interesting characters and I loved the different abilities they all have. They had a really tough upbringing but it just brought them closer together and there's a really strong bond between them. Since leaving their home they've built a supportive community around them and found other like minded people to learn from. Cash was a nice guy and I liked how supportive he was of both Brielle and her sisters but if I have one complaint about this book it was that the connection between them was a little too fast. I found it hard to believe he would be so quick to believe Brielle about her abilities and thought he would have been much more suspicious of her claims, at least in the beginning. I think a slower build on their connection would have made their relationship that bit more believable but I liked the two of them together so that only bothered me in the very beginning. One thing I will say is that Shadows was far more creepy than I expected it to be. We see parts of the story through the eyes of both the serial killer and his victims so considering how much he loved to torture people that did get quite dark and hard to read in places. I'm not knocking it because it was very interesting to read but I just think you should know going in that this isn't a light and fluffy paranormal romance so you're prepared. The mystery was good and I like the way things were left off ready for the next book in the series, it wasn't a cliffhanger though, more of a winning the battle but still having the rest of the war to fight kind of situation. The rest of this series is definitely on my wish list but I think I'm going to have to check out some of Kristen Proby's other books while I wait for the next one to be released.

This was amazing! I loved it so much, everything about it. From the creepy gothic feel, the witches, spells, covens, the suspense mystery. Romance, old and new loves, character development and an amazing plot. I was hooked from the beginning and I can not wait for more.

Kristen Proby has the most exciting and goosebump inspiring of reads within SHADOWS! KP’s very first full on PNR – though one of my fav of hers, Easy Magic, already had plenty of supernatural going on – is a mind gripping, heart palpitating paranormal masterpiece! This is the first of a brand new series focused on three witch sisters and this Practical Magic hardcore fan is hooked! The chill inducing take on the serial killer thriller, the suspense, the sisterhood, and the ROMANCE… We have it ALL!!! Shadows, as the name itself suggests is very focused on the paranormal, mainly in this case, on the dead’s shadows that Brielle alone can see, her gift. Not only was the book fantastic and intricately crafted in this ‘witchy’ universe, but also the interconnection with the serial killer – specially his POV – which was so beautifully executed that more than once gave me literally the CHILLS. That’s is proof on how masterfully it’s written! “Sometimes, monsters walk among us, and there’s just nothing we can do about that.” The love story, oh my, talk about catnip! There are very little things I adore more in my romance than a fated mated /soulmate type of love story, and Cash and Brielle’s meeting and insta feel of connection fit that to a T. Not only that, but thanks to Ms. Proby ‘s usual and fantastic craft, even with this insta parameter, it was just so relatable and believable! I not only read, but FELT their soul deep connection, and it’s blossoming into love. I can’t explain it. I barely know her, but I crave her company. It was as if I recognized her the second I saw her. “I’m drawn to you in ways I can’t explain. Like I said before, it’s a…recognition. Like, I was looking for you and didn’t even know it.” The suspense, the intrigue, the fear and the pain were so perfectly blended with Kristen Proby’s brand of humor, partnership, love and sexiness that we just dive in into this world, and we never want to emerge back. The mystery and the occult were a joy to unveil, the sister’s relationship and hints of the future couple, enticing to say the least, but the love story… WOW… Never once did I forget I was reading a romance, when Cash and Brielle were on page, their chemistry was palpable, and their love and devotion #RelationshipGoals! Awwww, and insanely did I mention that?! “Once I start kissing you, I won’t want to stop there. You’re a game-changer, Brielle, and we’re a little busy right now. This man doesn’t merely kiss and call it a day. No, he kisses like it’s his damn job. Like kissing me is the only thing in the world he can think about. As if he’s wanted to kiss me for decades. Saying I devoured this book is an understatement, because I not only greedily consumed every word, I savored them, and absorbed them into my heart. Shadows was all I hoped for and so much, MUCH more! I was already deeply hooked to Ms. Proby’s masterful contemporary romance, but adding to that my love for PNR, it’s a no brainer that Shadows is now one of my all time fav PNR, and I’m already counting down the days until we get the other two witch sisters, Millie and Daphne, specially after that teasing ending and this book is proof that. Need them stat!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 “Witches aren’t always scary,” Millie says with a wink. “And they look after their own.” ARC kindly provided by the author via Social Butterfly PR for an honest review For full review with Blog Tour, check out my Blog post, http://gisspotreviews.com/index.php/2...

I am so glad I did, this book was FANTASTIC. I think Kristen has a terrific future writing in this genre. I loved seeing a new side to Kristen’s writing. I am excited for what’s to come next!!!! Shadows really took me out of my comfort zone, not only because it is a paranormal story, it was also because the subject matter was both creepy and bone chilling. Some parts were hard to read but that just makes this book that much better. If you aren’t a fan of paranormal stories, I think you should still give this a try. It isn’t like other paranormal stories that I have read….there aren’t any vampires or werewolves ;) I will say that the basis of this story really makes the reader think while reading this book. I have always wondered if things like this really happen?? Shadows is not what I would consider a standalone novel. It is the first book in Kristen’s new series, but I believe this is a series that will NEED to be read in order. We get an ending to this story per say , but in the epilogue Kristen ends it with a to be continued ending. She sets up the next book in this series. I am DYING to get the next book. In Shadows we meet three sisters, Brielle, Millie and Daphne. This book focuses more on Brielle’s story, but Millie and Daphne play a huge part in this book as well. I absolutely loved the bond between the sisters. Now don’t get me wrong, yes this is a paranormal story but it is also a romance book. This book has an AMAZING romantic suspense element to it. It will keep you on the edge of your seat all the way through. I don’t want to say too much about this book, you really should go in blind and just enjoy how this whole story unfolds. This is definitely a book I could go on and on about. I can’t recommend this book enough!! I know I will be reading this book again in the future. I don’t feel that this review does this book justice, so I will just say…. ADD this book to your TBR list NOW!!! Actually put it on the top of that list. You will want to read this book as soon as it releases!!! Trust Me!!! Definitely my favorite of 2019 so far!!! Follow Us at :: Book Bitches Blog | Facebook | Twitter

Holy suspense! Wow this book gripped me by the throat and would not let go. I devoured this book in 1 sitting, and I am sorry it's over. Well, that was super dark and creepy. A very different type of story from Kristen Proby. The romance between Cash and Brielle kind of took a back seat to the suspense. But I still enjoyed it and am anxiously awaiting the next book ; especially after that ending!

Creepy and dark. The killer murders and tortured women that look like the heroine. I got to handed to the author, she did ok with this book. I got to warn though, there’s a cliffhanger. I can't believe I'm already done with this one. That like went super quick haha. And such a craptastic and even eerie at times kinda suspenseful romance haha. But I mean that in the best way possible haha But this book was an interesting one. It's so dark compared to Kristen's other books. But I loved that step she took away from her norm. And I'm always a fan for a good paranormal book. Especially one set in New Orleans. I grew up not far from St. Augustine, and now live near Savanaah GA. And I'm always a fan for a good paranormal book. Especially one set in New Orleans. I grew up not far from St. Augustine, and now live near Savanaah GA. So I'm all about learning about all the ghost stories and craziness in older towns like those. I find them so interesting. But this was definitely a wild ride of a book. And I really liked seeing her dive more into some of that paranormal stuff we got to see in Easy Magic. (And maybe a familiar face or two to haha) I honestly think my favorite things in this book were the characters. I really adored Cash and Brielle. And also Daphne and Millie too. They make up such a great cast of characters. And all have such varying personalities that it makes it fun to see what craziness will happen from it. Cash is just such a sweet and really is so kind and dedicated to not only Brielle but to his job and the good he can bring from so much bad. And Brielle was just adorable and fisty.a nd I adored that even though she deals with so much darkness and such. That she still can pull on her big girl pants and keep going. And wasn't afraid to get down and dirty when she needed to. I will say my only one complaint with this book was that it did seem a bit rushed in a couple places. The pacing of the story was great. Although I really got scared there for a minute there wasn't enough pages left to close put this part of the story haha. And I know some of that rushed feeling was done on purpose. But I feel like things moved super quickly in some places. And that even the ending was a bit on that side too. But honestly it is still an overall good book. And dang. If you like a dark suspense like I do, or are into Criminal Minds or any of those other detective/ crime shows and documentaries (like all the Netflix ones here lately) then you will love this book. Its written in a very intersting way perspective wise. And I found myself not wanting to put this one down so I could see what was going to happen next and who the big bad was. And let me say. I had no clue. Kristen does an awesome job keeping her secrets in this book hidden. And that was avery fun aspect for me. Plus the romance is just so sweet in this one. Not the forefront of the book by any chance. Because I mean... The suspense is definitely the star of this book. But you get a little of eveything in this for sure. I cannot wait to see what Kristen has planned next. As I get some serious vibes that this book is just the start haha SHADOWS is definitely a solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐4 STAR READ⭐⭐⭐⭐

We all know Kristen Proby can write a great romance but after Shadows we also now know she can write absolutely amazing paranormal. This book was chocked full of so many great elements. From the suspense that had me at all loss of what was coming next, to the ghosts that were often something out of a nightmare that I hope I never have and of course there was romance thrown in alongside some really creepy and gruesome parts that all combined made it a fantastic and unique read. “Much of what I know has been told to me by the souls who experienced it.” Brielle lives in New Orleans close to her two sisters. Each one has their own I guess you could say unique skill set. Brielle’s is she just happens to be able to see dead people, souls that are basically everywhere, like all the damn time. I don’t think I’d ever sleep. Anyways she’s also a guide for haunted ghost tours and it’s on one of those tours she meets Cash. They hit it off right away, and the fact that he doesn’t run screaming once he finds out about her abilities doesn’t hurt one bit. These two were great together. I love how he feels so protective of her and how she lets him into her small trusted circle even though she’s always tried to keep everyone else at arms lengths not wanting them to have to share in all that comes with her special abilities. I loved so many things about this book but the romance between Brielle and Cash was one of my favorite things. “I’m drawn to you in ways I can’t explain. Like I said before it’s a …recognition. Like, I was looking for you and didn’t even know it.” Okay all the while Brielle and Cash are developing, there’s also something so dark and sinister happening in the French quarter. A man is taking and brutally torturing girls. These were super dark, gritty, evil parts of the story that just tied in so well to the mystery and suspense. Brielle and Cash along with her sisters know they are supposed to find the killer and stop him but how, and will they find him in time? “He reaches for the hacksaw. Here we go Brielle. Now, be a good girl.” I loved so many things about this book. This was truly a dark paranormal at it’s best. The characters were amazing and I loved that the story was unique and kept me intrigued from start to finish. And oh boy, that finish? I can’t believe the author left us like that...I need the second book now! If you are in the mood for a great read check out Shadows and let Kristen Proby take you down to the Bayou in a book you don’t want to miss! “The shadows are everywhere.”
