I highly recommend this book! This is the second book I have read in the Smartypant Romance series and I have loved both. Code of Conduct takes place in Penny Reid’s Cipher Security world. Shane is a strong willed PI with a vulnerability that made her really likable. She is also an amputee which I thought was depicted beautifully and added to her strength. Gabriel is a sexy new employee at Cipher Security. He was drawn to Shane from the start and their chemistry jumped off the pages. This was an intriguing and intelligent read that I read through quickly. Code of Conduct was a truly smart romance that I couldn’t put down. This book has cameos from our favorite knitting in the city characters but can also be read as a stand-alone. However, you are doing yourself a major disservice if you don’t read the knitting in the city books as well. The cameos were great and it was like catching up with old friends. I especially loved the friendship that developed between Sandra and Shane. Shane and Gabriel are welcome additions to the Penny-verse. This was my first novel by April White and I plan to read more in the very near future. This ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review.

Just don’t swipe right on any ugly chicks.” Just for that I’d be swiping right on the biggest, most redneck, Deliverance-looking guy I could find. I cook with wine. Sometimes I even add it to the food. The women of my family all believed that secrets were just lies waiting to happen, and problems were to be aired out like musty rooms with the dust covers ripped off for everyone to see the state of your furniture. I crave you. You’re like the air when I’m underwater, or like fire when I’m frostbitten. My Review: Before picking up this captivating book, April White was a completely unknown entity to me as I don’t often read paranormal or historical tales, but she has leapt far and away from her typical genres with this cleverly penned Romantic Suspense entry into Penny Reid’s Universe of Smartypants Romance. Ms. White’s volume was a seamless insertion using several of Ms. Reid’s established characters from a previous series, some I was familiar with, many I was not as I haven’t read the Knitting in the City series, although that didn’t seem to matter at all. Ms. White’s nimble writing quickly drew me into the story and held my interest and curiosity throughout. The storylines and writing style were unfailingly engaging and well-balanced between heart-squeezing insights and cleverly amusing levity. The characters were enticing, charismatic, uncommonly quirky, and highly likable. I do loves me a kickass chick and my new gal-pal Shane pulled that off with breath to spare. Shane was a striking female who deserves Superhero status given her cool bravado and sleek wardrobe of tricked-out prosthetic legs with badass gadgets hidden inside. I adored her and her new partner Gabriel as they stumbled into an intriguing case that kept mushrooming from the cheating husband scenario it started out to be. Their adventure was well-crafted and highly entertaining and sets the bar high for subsequent volumes.

Stunning is not normal.  Brilliant is. Not. Normal.”’ “Code of Conduct” is an exciting new chapter in author April White’s admittedly already impressive writing resume.  Known for her incredible fantasy action adventure books (Immortal Descendants series- look it up, you won’t regret it), April has taken her remarkable talent as a writer and combined it with the insight gained from her personal skills as a former PI, in order to bring forth one extraordinary suspense-filled romance, that is a highly entertaining concoction of giggle-snort funny dialogue, raw and superbly edgy energy, as well as sharp, witty and fresh characterisation and plot.  I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to be handed a truly unique, sarcastic, strong female protagonist like Shane, who doesn’t wilt and simper (or get kidnapped and require rescuing) at the first sign of a sexy tall man (hello, Gabriel).  She is the personification of every kick-ass heroine out there, the one heroine that you would love your daughter or son to emulate.   As an amputee, Shane has faced more challenges than most and that is certainly evident in her personality, how she reacts and tries to blend in.  She is fiercely determined, highly intelligent and intuitive but the downside to all of this is her reluctance to get close to anyone. She is strong, yes, but she is so lonely and that becomes glaringly obvious as the story progresses and she is pulled into friendship from a certain Knitting in the City gang, with a penchant for lemon drops cocktails.   Gabriel is an absolute sweetheart.  He straddles the line between being a British alpha hero and a beta. He’s simply magnificent, robust, manly but so very sweet and tender. Especially when it comes to dealing with our skittish heroine.  His need to protect is overwhelming but he also recognises that Shane rarely needs that protection. But it’s the knowledge that it’s there, that he wants to keep her safe, care for her, that starts to promote a spark of something much more, something that transcends them being mere partners trying to solve a case.    Writing a book that includes another author’s very well known and adored characters, can be a deathly daunting task but April White has managed to not only capture the true essence of those people, (in particular Alex and Sandra) she has also created a whole new family that fits in so perfectly with the Cipher and KITC gang.   “Code of Conduct” is a sterling addition to the Smartypants franchise.  It is exciting, addictive, intelligent, hilarious and full of so much love from all sides.   ‘“We have trouble believing the good things people say- how smart, or funny, or interesting, or remarkable we are- but we have no trouble totally owning the bad stuff.  If I’m going to give words any power at all, I’m going to make damn sure it’s the ones that light me up like a damn Christmas tree, you know?"'

I was thrilled to see the contemporary romance world she built would be expanded, and when April White was announced as one of the authors, I knew the Pennyverse was in good hands; I love her Immortal Descendants series and I know she is an incredible writer as well as a fan of Penny‘s work. Despite my confidence that the SPR books would maintain the high quality of Penny Reid’s books, I was entirely blown away by this book. It shattered every expectation. Shane and Gabriel are deep, rich characters with complex histories, vibrant personalities, and superior intellect. Every page was crafted with wit, compelling story telling, and chemistry. (Oh goodness, the chemistry between these two was scorching!). The plot was complex, thrilling, relevant, downright terrifying at times, and oh-so satisfying. Often missing from other contemporary romance novels, they behaved like adults with each other. They respected each other. They were professional with each other. They did the jobs they were hired to do. They genuinely liked each other. They had realistic baggage and coped with it in a realistic way. All of this, and the story was written in a supremely entertaining way while applying real life issues, risks, and concerns. In addition, Ms. White blends her distinct voice seamlessly into the Penny Reid world. It was so fun seeing some of my favorites from the Kitting in the City series on the page again. That said, this book stands solidly on its own. There are some great Easter eggs but Knitting in the City is in no way a prerequisite for this story. Finally, I appreciate the diversity and inclusivity in this book. Gabriel is of Jamaican & Nigerian descent by way of England. Shane is an amputee. These aren’t just labels on generic characters; they are crucial elements that make the characters who they are at their core and we see how the world around them reacts to those elements. These people came alive for me on the page and I sincerely hope there will be more from them in the future. April White hit it out of the park with this one. Truly, so much great stuff in this story! I cannot wait for the world to get their hands on this book. ***ARC generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review (but I’m buying copies, too!!)***

I love it when a book starts off strong. A meet-cute is my favorite early plot trope. This has a meet-cute... sort of... A VERY strong start to this story. The heroine, Shane is a PI and an independent bad ass. She's moved to Chicago (before the book begins) to start over after some traumatic and emotional events in her life. Each thing is revealed gradually. Before that, though, Shane-in action, is taking down a cheating spouse. She is so slick and smooth. There's a ripple effect that sets up Shane and the hero, Gabriel becoming involved in a case.Case is too simple of a term. Gabriel is new to Cypher Sytems- a Chicago-based security company headed by Quinn Sullivan (married to Janie- from Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid). Gabriel is so dreamy and hero worthy. Gabriel and Shane have layers to get through. Shane is no push over. There are many cameo appearances by characters from the Knitting in the City series. I loved Dan (The Man) O'Malley and, Kat, Quinn, and Janie, Sandra and Alex, Fiona and Greg. Other supporting characters that are new to me: Van Hayden (loved him!), Sparky (loved him too), a certain villain- I hated. A majority of the story was spent on Shane and Gabriel. This is a slow burn. Their chemistry is off the charts. I found myself saying oh my god! What just happened?! I think that you could read this as a standalone, but I do think- KNOW that you'll want to read the Knitting in the City Books. - especial Neanderthal Seeks Human and Love Hacked. I love April White's writing. I highlighted the heck out of this book. I received an ARC from the Smartypants team, but I bought a signed paperback from Ripped Bodice at a Penny Reid (April White and Cathy Yardley) book signing. I am so happy that I did One of my favorites of 2019! Easily 5 stars.

★4 STARS★ I’m a first time reader of April White and I don’t think I could have picked a better book for my first outing. Code of Conduct a story of espionage, suspense and romance, all wonderfully tied together by two kick ass leading characters. Gabriel is a security expert for Cipher Security and his path crosses with Our Heroine Shane as they both are investigating a mutual person of interest. There is no reason for them to trust one another but in order to find the answers they are both looking for they have no choice but to combine forces. Working alongside Gabriel requires trust, which is difficult for Shane. From the outset we are privy to how much and how far she goes to protect her identity. Collaborating with Gabriel and Cipher Security requires a leap of faith, and what’s scarier than the jump is just how much she wants Gabriel to catch her. Shane was a special character in a number of ways. Her disability did not impede her in the least. In fact, she was superhuman in her strength, intelligence and resources she used in her role as a PI. Gabriel’s sweet and nurturing side was a great compliment to Shane’s toughness. As well as all the on screen action, I couldn’t keep my eyes off of these two.

I was thrilled to receive an ARC copy of Code of Conduct. I had first come across the start of this story in Penny Reid's "Cocktales" anthology, and out of all of the tales it contained, this one immediately grabbed my attention. The build of the relationship was equal parts hot and sweet and hilarious and had all of the feels. 2. I love a good mystery. The plot kept me guessing throughout the book, and it truly delivered in the end. (No spoilers) 3. I love diverse, smart characters. April White gave us main characters that you don't read everyday, and I was so glad to meet them. Whether it's race, gender or disability, she navigated them with honesty through very realistic scenarios in the plot. I am grateful for the attention given to them, and the fact that the author does not shy from truth telling within the story telling. She went deep, and it was beautiful. 4. I love Penny Reid. She created one hell of a universe in her "Knitting in the City" series. When it was shared that Smartypants Romance was going to allow other authors to share stories within it, I was pretty excited. The characters we see again in this book were true to their origins, and I love that we continue to get glimpses into their lives. It's brilliant and fun! The author hit every mark with them. 5. I love a strong female main character. It's kind of a must for books I seek out to read. Shane is one of the most kick ass characters I have read. For goodness sake, she has a peg leg!!! And deep knowledge of Star Wars Canon!!! She's fierce and intelligent and capable. Sigh.  I really hope that there's more to come from these characters!! I highly recommend!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

April White is an exceptional writer! This book drew me in with it’s characters, and their banter. I love that the author brought in social and cultural issues that we see and deal with in everyday life, and it fits in perfectly within the Penny-verse. Smart romance is truly a thing, it makes you think, you learn new things, and that why I love it. Can’t wait to read more by this author!!

First off, this is TOTALLY able to be a stand alone and in many ways incorporates 2 different universes, "Knitting in the City"(KitC) and "The Winston Brothers", with a seamless narrative construction. We know so many of these people and they are brilliantly integrated. We are now focusing on a total universe and a fuller narrative. Author April White beautifully introduces the mysterious P.I., Shane and right off the bat we know a lot about her. Smart, tall, confident, and an amputee who uses her prosthesis in very creative ways. She runs like a pro and the deeper meaning of her running abilities isn't lost on the reader once you get to know her better. Shane specializes in investigating infidelity and as she's leaving a job, she sees an intriguing and focused agent, Gabriel Eze. From there, we have a captivating story of two people with a troubled past and an undeniable connection. I will say that I enjoyed getting to know Gabriel and he fits into the KitC aspect of the universe through his work with Cipher Securities. Also, worth mentioning is the fact we have an interracial coupling that is never "a thing". So often we see people of color in books and it becomes the defining quality about their story or journey within the book. Not here. Here we have 2 people that come from VERY different backgrounds and they happen to have differences in race, ability, gender, ethnicity, and upbringing. It is refreshing to see them acknowledge these things, discuss them in reference to their present lives, and move onto the matter at hand. Bravo to Ms. White for so deftly handling this and making it relateable and relevant to us all. The story is great and I was never bored. I actually wanted to do some research after reading this and learn more about prosthesis and the peacekeepers in Africa. The chemistry between these 2 was fantastic!!! I never felt like it was unnatural or forced. The pace of their intimacy was on point and I loved the dual narrative. Each of them had such distinctive voices and yet their emotional tones matched, so I wanted to hear from both of them. The additional characters worked perfectly and Ms. White does an exceptional job of using the distinct qualities of the established characters to create 1 seamless experience with them. I think the moments that are key in this book leave you wanting more and yet are so satisfying. This is an extremely strong recommend and I had moments where the beauty in this took my breath away. BRAVO!!!!! READ THIS GEM & ENJOY ALL THE FUN, DANGER, AND LOVE THIS BOOK BRINGS.

“You could never be normal. Extraordinary is not normal. Stunning is not normal. Brilliant is. Not. Normal.” This book is one of my favorites of 2019. I am a huge fan of Penny Reid’s Knitting in the City series, so the idea of other authors writing in her world for SmartyPants Romance was both thrilling and nerve-wracking. What if I didn’t like the new stories or characters? What if the established characters didn’t feel genuine? My fears were clearly unfounded. April White is a brilliant writer, and this book felt like coming home to visit old friends. Shane is a fierce PI who usually catches cheaters. During a case, she accidentally crosses paths with Gabriel and a few others from Cypher Security, and they end up teaming up. This story is longer than a lot of modern romance novels, but it’s got mystery, action, authentic characters dealing with their own vulnerabilities, issues, and pasts, and I couldn’t put down. Shane and Gabriel are people I want to know in real life. Heads up, Code of Conduct did make me want to boycott the internet, but here I am, on the internet. “Search engine is just the term people use to make artificial intelligence sound like it works for us,” -Alex Greene

Disguised as romantic suspense, this book is a reminder that we all need a place to belong no matter our life situation. In the case of this story, it takes being loved to help the heroine open herself up to the possibilities of what it means to live. Shane is a private investigator tasked with helping spouses confirm their spouses are cheating on them. One night, she meets with a man who is cheating and transfers money from a hidden account to his wife’s account. Unbeknownst to Shane, one of the best security firms, Cipher Security, is protecting this man. Alerted to her transfer, a Cipher Security team shows up to investigate, and Shane notices one of the men, Gabriel. She is drawn to him, in the same way, he is drawn to her. Ensuring she escapes, she leaves into the night. However, Shane is drawn to Gabriel and places herself in his way. On finding out that the wife has disappeared, Gabriel encourages Shane to work with him to investigate the wife’s disappearance and the shady dealings of the husband. As the two scrutinize the case together, they grow closer and more rooted in their attraction to each other. When Shane’s life becomes endangered, Gabriel does everything to keep her safe. But as the two grow closer, the more Shane wants to push Gabriel away. Will Gabriel and Shane discover the betrayal behind the husband’s dealings, and will Shane lower her guard to make room for Gabriel in her solitary life? If you don’t know, Code of Conduct is one of Penny Reid’s SmartyPants Romance books. This is the third book of this group that I’ve read, and what I love thus far with these books is their social consciousness. Code of Conduct is no different. Wrapped up in a burgeoning, fiery romance is a message, an important one. Our heroine, Shane, is an amputee. She loses her leg in an accident, and it changes her identity. In many ways, she’s incredibly independent, trying on various “legs” to suit her needs. In other ways, her injury acts to keep people at bay. Losing her leg is one of her many traumas, and White shows us through the characterization of Shane how people sometimes empower themselves in ways that distance themselves from others. Sparky, the inventor of her many legs, tells her she needs to let people into her life because she has spent her post-amputee life, distancing herself from others. She doesn’t seek help because living alone is more comfortable. Unfortunately, as White shows us, it also keeps us complacent, never seeking adventure. White crafts Shane in a way where we get a real sense of her before the various traumas in her life. It’s easy to see she has stopped truly living until Gabriel comes into her life. It’s a reality check that we should look to our own lives to determine if we, too, are keeping people at “arm’s length,” effectively stagnating our lives in the pursuit of comfort and ease. There are also messages in this book about pre-judgment. As an amputee, Shane talks about how people often can only see her loss: “people didn’t usually see me. They saw my face and my height if any prosthetic was out of sight, or they saw the fake leg and only the fake leg if it wasn’t.” White also illustrates this through Gabriel. He’s a black man, albeit one who wears beautiful suits and has a British accent. Yet, throughout the story, we see him struggle against the societal judgment of black men. One such incident occurs the night that Shane is threatened, and her life is endangered. Instead of the police handling the situation correctly, they focus their attention on Gabriel, the one who had saved Shane from danger simply because he is a black man, and the villain of this tale is a white man. Again, in this instance, White shows us the difficulty of people looking beyond the outer package. It causes others to unfairly judge people based on a loss of limb or more melanin in one’s skin. And it’s an important message for readers to consider. As our hero, Gabriel is dreamy. From the outset, I loved him. He’s caring, sensitive, and masculine. These qualities are not mutually exclusive in this story. We find out quickly that he has been raised in a mostly female household. This has given him a sensitivity and respect for women while offering him a place to develop the skill of protection. And we see this is a balancing act in this story. White creates a tense moment between Shane and Gabriel when he fails to find the balance between caring and masculinity. At that moment, White is placing a magnifying glass on how masculinity usurps feminine strength. It’s another moment of reflection in this story. As she does so well with the other messages of her book, White offers a solution to it, one that remedies the tension between our hero and heroine. Together, Gabriel and Shane are modern-day hero/heroine magic. With her internal strength, Shane challenges Gabriel and his expectations of women, while Gabriel challenges Shane to open her heart to others. To borrow from the movie, Jerry Maquire, they “complete” each other in ways that are mature and heady in our world of social messages. While I’ve spent time focusing on White’s messages in Code of Conduct, it needs to be said that her messages aren’t heavy-handed. They are woven brilliantly amid Shane and Gabriel’s romance and the suspense of this story. Nonetheless, adding the depth of these messages to her romance gives it an essential place in romance. I think this is what I love the best about it. Yes, it’s easy to see the brilliance of an amputee heroine with the strength of personality to take down the bad guy. It sets Shane apart from your average romantic heroine. It’s April White’s insistence on focusing us on greater social ills in Code of Conduct that make it a worthy read, a necessary one. This book is deep; it’s wrapped in a package of a comfortable, suspense-filled romantic story. But it’s anything but that. I love what Penny Reid and authors such as April White are doing with the SmartyPants Romance books. They are giving us “smart” romance, romance that uses typical romance tropes to challenge our thinking about life. If your romance manna is romantic suspense, then you need Shane and Gabriel’s story in your Kindle Library. You’ll thank me in the end.

This isn't good for Shane as for the past few years she started her life all over and has gone to lengths to hide her real identity and now Cipher's top hacker may find out what she is hiding from? I did love this particular book as the potential love interest of Shane's will be one of Cipher Security's top guys Gabriel Eze. He was part of the peacekeeper unit that tried to save the Nigerian schoolgirls from jihadist group Boko Haram. This part made me get all excited as recently I decided to start watching from the early seasons of Madam Secretary and up to mid Season two which is currently set around trying to find out the identity of Boko Haram and capture his group. I also liked how we were reunited with favorite Knitting in the City characters like Fiona Archer, Quinn Sullivan, Kat, and Sandra Green. Code of Conduct had not only the romantic comedy feel that Penny Reid's series is known for but also April White's added touch of Romantic Suspense. I am now very excited to read the next Smartypants Romance books as released and delve back into the worlds of either series.

We follow the story of Shane P.I (not her real name), who (as the fake name suggests) is a Private Investigator who specializes in catching cheaters. Shane also has a prosthetic leg, is super athletic and determined, and with the help of her amazing crazy-scientist-like prosthetist ,Sparky is always going above and beyond. While Shane is trying to catch cheater extraordinary Dane Quimby she inadvertently grabs the attention of Cipher Security, a high-end internet security firm. Enter Gabriel, a tall, dark and handsome security expert, and a former UN Peacekeeper with a fierce protective streak that finds its focus on the beautiful P.I. From then on there's a lot of suspicious activities, detective stuff, investigations, and a VERY slow-burn romance brewing. I have to say never quite hooked me. Don't get me wrong, it's a good and interesting book, but maybe the genre just didn't do it for me. I struggled to keep my focus on the characters and a lot of times I had a hard time connecting to the story as Quimby didn't convince me as a major threat. The romance was so slow burn that by the time that Shane and Gabriel got together I wasn't as invested in them anymore. There was a big revelation that happened around 95% of the book that I thought could have happened in around 50%. I think if they connected earlier the stakes of survival could have been raised, therefore introducing more drama. However, here are a couple of things that I liked about the book overall: 1. I'm loving all the heroines from the new Smartypants Romance books. They are so fierce and independent, even in their holdups, they don't need a knight in shining armor. They learn to heal and love, but that's their choice. Events caused Shane to lose half of her right leg, but she is strong, beautiful and completely capable. It's amazing to see so much representation and fierceness in all these books. 2. The book was very modern and relevant, it approached themes like the NSA, artificial intelligence, internet & data security, to racism and police brutality. 3. Really interesting supporting cast. 4. Oscar the dog. Enough said there. Even though I struggled to connect sometimes I can absolutely appreciate the writing, and while it might not have been my favorite book is one that left me with interesting thoughts that will stick for a while. I also got very curious to know more about Sandra and Alex, and later found out they are from the first book in the Knitting in the City Universe - Love Hacked, so that will definitely go straight to my TBR. This was an ARC sent to me in exchange for an honest review. Code of Conduct is out now on all platforms

The tension abounds with them. But they make a good team, they sound off each other and make useful info. They trust the others capabilities and have many things in common. Shane and Gabriel have both loads of baggage making thing skittish around certain topics. Slowly opening up. Feelings are tricky for Shane and Gabriel too but he wants to see where they can go. It's nice to see they prioritized works in times they can just leave it all and go let rhe whole lust thing take over. Watching these two guarded and jaded people fall for each other was full of feels. The whole hacker thing is always fascinating to me seeing Shane and Alex plus Jorge was fun to see. I missed these familiar characters from past Penny books, plus new ones. The author for the first of the Cipher Security Series voice is interesting, the first book sets it up pretty well. She fits in with the Pennyverse well I feel. The slow development, smart facts, banter and slow burn. I got to know a new author too.

I love April’s writing style even though I only read two of her Marking Time series. This was great! I felt like I was really immersed in Pennyverse. Cipher Security characters were great, got a glimpse of Dan the security man and Quinn. 😊 Also may I say Alex and Sandra were spot on! I realised how much I liked these characters and I missed them too. As to the main characters of Code of Conduct. Shane was great! Tough, strong, brave and witty. I want my heroes and heroines to be respectful, considerate and not just pretty, hot and selfish. All the more reason to love Shane and Gabriel. They were all that and more. And to see them interact with Sandra and Alex, Fiona and Greg (who are my most favourite people of all of Penny’s characters) was even better. April White managed to keep her own writing style and story and connect it seamlessly with the characters I already knew from the Knitting in the City series. When Penny Reid first came out with the idea, I didn’t quite know what to make of Smartypants romance with so many different authors. But now I am just grateful. Because: Best fan fiction ever!

Gabriel is all kinds of goodness. Observant, compassionate and determined. When these two first collided there was no doubt that there would be more going on between them, because sparks flew. I loved their bantering and how much they truly respected each other. The slow burn worked real well for me because both have their own demons riding them and they needed the time to learn to trust the other, but regardless of the things they didn’t say, I loved how they communicated with each other and where they were at in the end. This is my first read by the author and I thoroughly enjoyed getting lost in her words. I will also admit that this is my first experience with the crew at Cipher Security *shrugs and points at the extremely long TBR list* but it wasn’t an issue (though I do feel the need to attempt to get the books higher up on the list now) If you’ve read the Knitting in the City series you will have a great time catching up with everyone, if you haven’t you’ll be like me and be intrigued enough to want to dive into it. The mystery aspect of the story was well woven in and I enjoyed watching it unravel and find out just what the heck was going on. Overall, this was a fun read and I’m definitely looking forward to hanging out more with this cast of characters as the series progresses! ~ Copy provided by Social Butterfly PR & voluntarily reviewed ~

I adored so many things about this book, it was not at all what I expected; in a good way. Usually, I gravitate more towards female characters as my favorites in books, mostly because I learn from them or they inspire me, it is very rare when I like the man best, most times, I like them equally. This, was a rare case scenario. Gabriel is easily my favorite character in this book, I just adored him. I don’t even think I have enough words to express how much I did. He is one of the sweetest, most thoughtful characters I have read about. I simply adored him, I don’t even think listing all the reasons why would even do him justice. Now, saying Gabriel was my favorite doesn’t by any means negate the fact that I loved Shane as well. She is absolutely one of the strongest characters I know, she’s been through so much, and although it did somehow affect her self-esteem, she never let it affect her and fought to not let it define her. I loved her development within the book, from doubting she is worthy of love because her entire life she’d been led to think that she isn’t, to realizing that what people think or say about her isn’t what defines if she is worthy or not, but rather, what SHE thinks of herself is what does. Loving both characters goes a long way when it’s a romance. It’s often hard to fall for a relationship if you don’t at least like one of the characters. Which is to say, I very much enjoyed this one. Gabriel fought tooth and nail past Shane’s walls without pushing her, he tore them down and proved to her that she can trust him without forcing her to. It was a slow burn for sure, which I prefer to rushed romances in all honesty, it makes it more worth it if it doesn’t come easy. I did, however, feel like the romance was overshadowed by the events of the book, it felt more like a detective thing than a romance book sometimes. That bothered me in a way because it just left me wanting more scenes. One of the reasons I ended up loving this book the most so far in all the smartypants romance books I want is the side characters. As someone who hasn’t read the Knitting in the city series yet, this book made me all the more excited to start it and fall in love with the characters, especially Alex and Sandra as well as Fiona and Greg. I just cannot wait to learn more about them in their books. All in all, this was a really good read for me and it is definitely something I would recommend. *ARC provided by socialbutterfly in exchange for an honest review.

Why is this book over? I don't want to stop reading about Shane and Gabriel! Normally, a 400+ page book would put me off. But not this beauty. I was fully absorbed in every page and didn't want it to end. I didn't feel my usual impatience because April White wrote all the things she needed to write to make this story perfect for me. Shane: an amputee, yes, but so much more. I loved that she was tall and bold and capable. I also appreciated her vulnerability, and even her "walls" didn't annoy me. Why is this book over? I loved that she was tall and bold and capable. I also appreciated her vulnerability, and even her "walls" didn't annoy me. I loved seeing her growth throughout the book. Gabriel: swoon, swoon, swoon. He's British/Nigerian, knows how to love a prickly woman, and when he messes up, knows how to apologize. I loved every page he was in. As a couple: I loved them. I want to know them in real life. April wrote their relationship brilliantly. New characters: I want to know the new Cipher Security folks as well as Shane's friends. Can they all have books please? Cameo characters: so happy to see some Knitting in the City peeps. Especially Alex and Sandra (Alex!!!). I was just so stinkin' happy to read more of them! But if you haven't read that series, no biggie. You'll be just fine. It's just a special bonus for me. Storyline: I won't give away the big story (outside of the romance), but I will say I found it completely engaging. I like my romance reads to have more than just romance. Fortunately this one had a well-thought-out issue along the Cipher Security lines, weaving the romance with the research with the suspense. And I was loved that it was low angst. This book exceeded my expectations. Shane and Gabriel are amazing. I can't wait for the rest of the books in this series.
