The moment the H gets a concussion it was the ex who runs to him almost kissing his booboos for him and it was clear there was no place for the h or even the teammates. Ever after being clued in by his friends, do we get an apology, or an acknowledgment from the H putting h’s fears to rest? Oh fuck no. Apparently saying “I love you too” to h’s humiliatingly public confession is good enough. Let me make this clear, after ALL that, h was the one yo humiliate herself with grand gesture. Not him. And we as a reader do NOT hear from him telling the h that no, the OW wasn’t staying the night with him like he insinuated and no he no longer feels anything for her.

I really enjoyed getting to know Tess and Cole. They came together pretty fast and resisted the fall as best they could but they fell together naturally in the end, as they were meant to be. It was easy to set aside expectations and just experience the events with the characters. The book is not only well written, it had emotional moments, funny moments, and certainly happy moments. As someone who reads a few hundred books a year, I can tell you that some plots feel recycled. That is not my experience with Ms. Flynn’s books. Each, including this one, brings something unique or fresh to the table. Looking forward to the next book. Complimentary copy received and voluntarily reviewed.

She knows how to make you laugh and have a good time while you root for the underdog and hope for true love. Tess and Cole were absolutely wonderful together. Weirdness times two just made this story special. Tess was a riot right from the beginning. Her attitude and quick wit just made her so enjoyable to read. She had a hell of a life and learned to take everything in stride. But, this time, there’s not much she could do with a hockey puck coming right at her. She’s either going to put the stick down and pass it or she’s going to score. Unfortunately, as she is trying to pass it, the roof comes down around her. Now, she has no choice but to suck it up and move on or, in this case, move in with someone she never thought she would see again. Cole was down in the dumps. His on-again, off-again relationship has been off for a long time. He has his whole life planned out and now it seems like Marti is throwing a wrench into all of it. He’s organized, predictable and knows just how he likes things. But, there was something about Tess that actually got him interested in something other than brooding. Now, his organized, predictable life is being thrown into a tailspin. First the new plays, then he finds out he’s going to be a daddy and now, Khan. Having Tess around is no hardship but, he didn’t sign up for Khan. Now, together they need to figure out a way to get over their insecurities. They need to learn to rely on each other. They need to learn that the old ways aren’t always the best ways. Tess loves the word temporary. Cole loves the word organization. She doesn’t believe he will stay. He just wants her in his life … and Khan too. Avery Flynn just knows how to tell a story. She knows when to throw in the drama and when to just let the characters go and be themselves. Maybe that’s what I love most about reading her stories. She makes her characters true-to-life. They are people that you could relate to and would love to be friends with. Everyday people with everyday problems. And, her supporting cast of characters are just as much fun as her main characters. All of them truly show what the word friendship means. I loved Ack-Weird. I loved the premise of the story and how they both came to rely on the other. I loved that Tess was able to get Cole to loosen up. I loved that Cole took the word “temporary” out of Tess’s vocabulary. Fun, sassy, sexy and weird … you can’t ask for much more from a story and Avery Flynn knows how to deliver it all. The women are tiny, fat, or funny looking, or prone to verbal diarrhea, or have the voice of a 10 year old, or are just some kind of oddball. The men are just hot. Needless to say, I was really impressed with the story and how well Flynn managed to develop the characters from beginning to end. The story was sweet and entertaining, a definite must read for sure. At the beginning of the story we get to meet Tess Gardner, a flower shop owner who happens to love facts. She is attending one of her friend’s wedding rehearsal party when she overhears a group of hockey players playing a trivia game and answers the questions when she thinks that they are not looking. But she is noticed by one of the players and he invites her to play. Everyone has a good time and Tess immediately feels chemistry between her and Cole. They dance and soon things get carried away. It wouldn’t be until a month later that things would change their lives forever. Tess has always felt that she doesn’t belong. After growing up being shuffled from relative to relative like an unwanted obligation, she started to see things as temporary and made her feel invisible. She has a quirky personality to which people weren’t as accepting of and her love for facts began. Her priority changes when she finds out that she is pregnant and feels the need to give the baby what she didn’t have growing up. But it’s her connection with Cole that make things harder for her and the more time they spend together the more she begins to fall for him. She is afraid of getting hurt and doesn’t know if Cole has any feeling for her at all. Cole Phillips is good at what he does, hockey. He is the overachiever who happens to like structure and a routine. So when Tess shows up to tell him that she is pregnant things don’t go as he plans. His life is about to change forever and he doesn’t know how to react at first. He had a one-night-stand with Tess, yet his ex is all he can think about. What she is going to say once they get back together or so he thinks. Cole is hopeful that everything in his back goes back to normal, but the minute Tess moves in with her cat all hell breaks loose and he’ll have to decide if is worth giving their relationship a try or not. I absolutely loved this book! It was quirky and funny. Tess has been through so much growing up so it’s understandable for her to have her guard up. I loved her personality and how caring she is. On the other hand, Cole might love his routine but he has the biggest heart. They have a lot in common and facts is one of them. They have definitely found their match and they are able to help each other overcome their pasts in order to move on. They challenge each other and it just proves how they are meant to be together. I loved the interactions that she has with her friends, they are her family and they made the book that much funnier. All in all, the story was great and the characters developed as well. The ending is so sweet and it’s definitely one not to be missed. I would highly recommend checking out this book and I cannot wait to read more from the author in the future. :) **I voluntarily read an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review**

Florist Tess Gardner is the weird reserved one of the friendship group we've been following in this series. At the wedding of Frankie and Lucy (from Muffin Top), Tess gets "weddinged" with Ice Knights player Cole Phillips. They're both happy for it to have been a one-night thing, but Tess turns up pregnant. When a timely apartment disaster kicks Tess out of her home for a few weeks, Cole takes her into his carefully ordered house and life on a temporary basis. As I've said before, this series hardly breaks new ground., but they're all fun romantic comedies, often with a core of drama (in this case, Tess's abandonment issues and Cole's rigidity). They're also well written and characterized with lots of time given to the supporting cast of previous and future point-of-view characters.

MY REVIEW This was weird, like I had so many high expectations to love this, but I unfortunately didn't. I thought it was adorably awkward and slightly cute. I found the main couple immature and annoying most of the times, I can see the appeal to others though, I can see why its potential for other readers to enjoy and love, it is though a continuation of her other series. Well I thought it was, as the main chick is bff with the girls from Butterface, Muffintop and Tomboy. This is not my first Avery book, and it probably wont be my last, they are fun easy, some what angst/drama (ish) rom/coms. Tess and Coles story is very boy meets girl at said wedding they bang, she gets knocked up and then they fall in love, with a hell of a lot of miscommunication, they breakup well not really they are really ever together just boning. "Temporarily" I liked it overall 3 stars.

This is a story that spoke to my heart in so many ways. One of the things that I love about Flynn's books is that she has very realistic characters. You can easily find bits and pieces of yourself in each of her characters like I did with Tess and Cole in this book. With this book, Tess is a nerd and since I am a proper nerd I fell into pieces over her. I really connected with her in so many ways. Cole, while he had loving parents, had an unpredictable childhood since he had to move around a lot because of his father's job. Because of that, he is in constant need of order in his life. Right down to pre-prepared meals and bedtimes. Both Tess and Cole experience such incredible personal growth in this book. It was such a beautiful thing to witness. Tess throws Cole's predictable life into chaos and Cole makes Tess see that not everything is always temporary in life. Their journey to happiness together touched my heart. I love this entire cast of characters. I have read many of the other books that contain these characters and I have fallen in love with each of them along the way. I love the way that they pop up in other books within this amazing fictional world. I am seriously anxious for the next book from this world! When the author runs out of characters to write about I might just die. (Avery, please don't run out of characters. Pretty please? :happy face emoji:) Overall, this is by far my favorite Flynn book to date. These characters just got me and I got them. Their love story was beautiful and the growth that they experienced within themselves individually was inspiring. Flynn's books are always feel-good stories that have the right amount of emotions, heat, and humor. In other words, they are perfect and you will fall head over heels for them. Just saying. I can't recommend this one enough. It is definitely my new favorite. Thanks so much, Avery Flynn! You have done it again! More reviews on my blog: Novel Nerd Faction

They were both quirky in their own unique way. And Tess's random facts about nothing and everything had me laughing and taking some notes to use on later conversations 😉 "We got weddinged" were the famous words that Tess echoed and if she only knew that that would be the beginning of a rollercoaster of an adventure that they both would be facing soon. Tess hasn't had an easy life and because of her past she has found it hard to allow people in her life and much less trust them with her secrets/life. But that is exactly what she is having to learn to do with Cole. As they both coexist in each others lives it's like trial and error and at times I felt like there was a massive wreck about to happen. I didn't know if they were going to survive to be honest and I wanted them to because they were so quirky and cute together. They were like apple pie and ice cream/whip cream. You couldn't have one without the other one. A cute/quirky/laugh out loud romance that will have you smiling like a fool at the end 😂😄 Kara~4.5 Stars

I’m not gonna lie, most of the time Avery is a hit or miss and I never really know which way it’s gonna go. So I read most of her books LOL because even when they’re a miss, they don’t miss out of the park. This was a hit! If there’s one thing I know that Avery can do well is quirky. Awk-weird by Avery Flynn is a sexy yet emotional read. This is a romance novel, I can keep re-reading over and over again. The cast of characters is diverse. You don't really need to read the other two books at all, but the hockey team is the same one. This book is more focused on Cole and Tess and the situation they have gotten into. Tess and Cole are both two people who are very set in their ways. Tess doesn't want anyone to help her because she is so used to them abandoning her. Cole likes to be in control of everything in his life. It was sad to see them be this way, but it was really fun to watch both of them slowly start to let go of their issues. I did like the slow burn thing they had going on, but at times I just wanted to knock their heads together so they would figure it out. I think my favorite part of the novel was Tess' kitten Kahn. Like, first the name is great! Second, he was so evil! I did love that he imprints on Cole so easily. It was so cute! I also did really like all the trivia facts too, and that was how Tess and Cole first bonded. I was disappointed that we didn't get to really know that many details about the sexy times that resulted in the baby, but Flynn makes up for it later in the novel when these two idiots figure out they are attracted to each other. I've read her other books so I wasn't surprised by this, but I do think the illustrated cover may not convey that there are going to be some steamy scenes in this book. Be forewarned if that is not the type of romance book you like. I am partial to them, so more please. I'm really loving this series so far, and I'm excited that there is going to be another one after this one!

3.5 stars I liked this but man the hero annoyed me for a good part with his adherence to schedule and the blind belief that he was meant to be with his on-again/off-again ex as he was so used to her. I found that insulting to the heroine. But still he does start to loosen up and I started to like him.

Both the heroine and the hero have the most adorable quirks, but unfortunately, these idiosyncrasies are also partly to blame for their emotional barriers🙁 Tess and Cole meet at a wedding where they instantly bond over their shared knowledge of random trivia, while the attraction between them is a slow simmer in the background. However, a turn around the dance floor sets their attraction from simmer to boiling point resulting in a wild night of passion. Although neither are mentally and emotionally in the right place to consider their encounter past that one night. Nonetheless, fate has other plans for the mismatched pair. Surprisingly, both Tess and Coles issues are remarkably similar and stem from the way in which they grew up. It always surprises me how much emotional damage is inflicted during childhood, whether intentional or not. My personal quote has been ‘Like the ebb and flow of the tide, change is inevitable, it is how we adjust to the change that truly defines us.’ This phrase couldn’t be more perfect to describe the approach Tess and Cole have to specific aspects of their lives as a result of their childhood. For Tess, she tends to hold tight to the pessimistic view of not belonging and people always leaving, abandonment issues and connection barriers added to feelings of inferiority make it difficult for Tess to believe in a happily ever after for herself. While Cole has a mild case of OCD recurring order and routine including having all aspects of his life planned out. Although I did approve of his baking skills as a way of coping with stress 🎂 For all their emotional obstacles, Tess and Cole, slowly manoeuver their way around each hurdle without truly realising the positive improvements they are making to each other’s lives. So when a hiccup on the road to happiness occurs they both react badly falling back on their default coping mechanisms. Luckily, both Tess and Cole have wonderful friends who support them even when they are idiots. Helping them see what is right in front of them and aiding them in dealing with their issues ❤ The Ice Knights are full of larger than life characters, being able to follow their journies and witness the giants falling one by one is a delight to the imagination. During a wedding the two of them hookup and thanks to defective condoms Tess ends up preggers (this is not a spoiler, the female character on the cover is clearly pregnant). Tess then has some bad luck and moves in with Cole. Cole is also having struggles within his life and the two of them bump around irritating each other. There are so many laughs out loud moments, quirky knowledge bombs, smoking hot sexy times, and super sweet swoony moments that I was sad that this book ended. I had fun reading this and think in the cycle of illustrated covers this one got it right. This specific video review will be included in the October 2019 wrap-up. Awk-Weird is your typical cute and funny rom-com. Tess and Cole meet at a wedding and hit it off. They hook up and boom…..Tess is pregnant. I liked Cole too, but I wasn’t a fan of his cluelessness concerning his ex. I think it had more to do with Cole disliking change in his life. It blinded him to what was in front of him. All in all, this was a really cute story. I do love a good rom-com. They are just what you need when you are in a book funk or need something light. Copy provided in exchange for a voluntary review

frankly, the first one was okay, nothing out of this world but guys,,, this one right HERE!!!! the chemistry between the main characters was utterly earth-shattering. their scenes were the perfect quantity of sexy, cute, funny and lovely. it was aggravating at several parts, both of them had issues they needed to resolve for them to be together and they kept ignoring that they were mistaken yet when they came to their senses, it was all worth it. easily, 4/5!!

An entertaining but ultimately a little too light romance - I liked elements but felt it could have been developed further.

3.5 stars. Awk-weird was a cute read! This is Tess and Cole's story. Tess is a quirky, awkward, trivia-buff who owns a flower shop and who meets Cole at her good friend's wedding. Cole is a pro hockey player and has recently broken up with his on again-off again girlfriend (again). The two meet and have a sexy one night stand, but neither think anything will come of it. Fate has other plans when Tessa finds out she is pregnant. When her apartment floods soon after, she moves in with Cole while it is being repaired and so they can get to know each other and become friends before their baby comes. Along the way, they find they have great chemistry and are really good together, so they begin to fall for each other. They both have some issues to overcome before they can make things work between them, but it all works out in the end and Tess and Cole get their HEA. I liked Cole and Tess's characters. Tess, especially, was endearing, quirky and relatable. They were very unique and fun together. I did feel like there was a little too much back and forth between them. Both were frustrating at times and stubborn. I wanted them to see the truth about their feelings for each other sooner. There was a bit too much focus on their personal flaws, like Tess feeling like everything was temporary, due to her unstable childhood, and Cole's need for routine and structure. I felt those flaws were harped on throughout the book, instead of being resolved quicker. Cole is a creature of habit, possibly having some OCD tendencies. He fixates on his routine in a big way. He has an on again off again girlfriend that he had been with since childhood. He has always imagined he would eventually marry her. When he meets Tess, he is "off" with his ex, but he has no doubt they will get back together. Even when he and Tess have their hookup, he still thinks he will get back together with his ex, and through much of the events of the book, he still feels the same way. Eventually, he does realize that he is clinging to that routine and he didn't really love his ex anymore. His ex also does not pursue him or act interested in getting back together with him. So I wasn't extremely bothered by that ex drama, but I was bothered by the fact that he never really explained all of that to Tess. I wanted him to tell her that he no longer loved or wanted his ex, because he let her think otherwise and the ex is brought up very often. It bothered me that this plot point wasn't fully resolved. I felt it added a little too much angst. I felt very sorry for Tess. Also, the big conflict and the way it wrapped up was not my favorite. I didn't feel like Cole apologized for his part and I felt like Tess apologized too much, when not everything was her fault. I felt like she was made out to be the bad guy, when she was not, in my eyes. I did like the first 75% of the book better than the ending. The resolution was too short and the couple was not officially together until the very end. This all had me knocking the rating down from a 4 to a 3.5. Still, most of the book was very enjoyable. I liked the slow burn, funny, sweet and easy feel of the book. The story was cute and I love a surprise pregnancy. I especially liked Tess's knowledge of fun facts and trivia. I was happy that Tess and Cole were able to work out their relationship, fall in love, get over their issues and pasts, and make a family with their baby. Overall, Awk-weird was a good read. I found Tess and Cole's story sweet and fun, despite a few issues I had. This was my first read by Avery Flynn and I will try her again in the future. *arc provided in exchange for an honest review*

This was my first Avery Flynn book, but it definitely won't be my last!! Awk-weird is such a sweet and heartwarming story. Once I started reading I couldn't stop and I have to say even though I loved Tess and Cole, Khan the cat has earned a special place in my heart, haha. A story where two people meet, sleep together and the woman ends up pregnant could turn out really cheesy, but this one was a lot of fun. Tess grew up with her mother who ended up leaving her with relatives when something else came along. That wasn't always a pleasant experience either and she doesn't really feel like she belongs or is loved. Tess things even her closest friends are only temporary and treats them that way so she won't get hurt. Cole is a hockey player who follows a routine, even down to what he eats every morning. He's stuck in his ways and has a hard time when things go differently. Even the woman he's with is on again off again and while it bothers him, he's pretty confident it will all go according to plan. Moving a lot as a child, he came to depend on routing to keep normal and it kind of stuck. Awk-weird brings two totally different people together who end up being more similar than they think. When Tess ends up pregnant, both of their lives change and it's fun seeing them slowly get close. I loved that it felt like both of them really needed each other. Tess got Cole out of his routine at times without him feeling bad and Cole slowly starts breaking down Tess' emotional walls. There are many cute, sweet, heartwarming and even steamy moments between the two of them. More often than not, I had a smile on my face while reading Awk-weird. I think near the end it took a bit too long before things started wrapping up. To me it felt like the will they, won't they moments dragged on just a bit too long. Of course, things don't always go easy, but this felt forced. Don't get me wrong, I loved the ending, I just think it should've gotten there just a little bit sooner. Also, Tess starts giving random facts when she's nervous or uncomfortable and I loved the little bits of random information I learned while reading this book. It was Tess' way of coping, but it was really entertaining! It must've been fun looking up all of the facts. If you're looking for a heartwarming romance that will make you laugh out loud, that also has a steamy side, definitely pick up Awk-weird. Khan the cat will be very happy if you do!

Awk-Weird by Avery Flynn 4.5* This book was hilariously awkward and delightfully weird with characters you cannot help but fall in love with. Tess is fact-spouting florist who has not had the most fantastic of relationships with her family. She’s made her own family with a close knit group of friends but even then, she’s waiting for the other shoe to drop, for them to leave. After all, in Tess’s world, no one ever sticks around and everything and everyone are temporary. After all, in Tess’s world, no one ever sticks around and everything and everyone are temporary. Cole is not a fan of change. And when I say not a fan, I mean he resists it at every opportunity. Everything in his life and his home has a place and a space and that’s how they will stay, dammit! Every aspect of his life is ruled by routine and a strict regimen and it works for him until colorful Tess enters his life and stirs things up a wee bit. With Tess and her issues and Cole still believing he’s in love with his ex, there’s a lot of confusion and frankly, hot sex, to be had as they work out the dynamics of their relationship. There’s really not much I didn’t like about this book apart from a few instances where I could have cheerfully throttled both Tess and Cole. Otherwise I read much of the book with a smile and great enjoyment - I have a feeling Tess and Cole’s is a story I’ll return to in the future. And after that little snippet of Loud Mouth, I’m more eager than I thought possible to get my hands on Petrov! *I voluntarily read an early copy of this book. **Reviewed by Melinda for Joandisalovebooks Blog.

I've been waiting for this book for a month and it was worth it My biggest complaint is Marti isn't involved in the resolution because it seemed to me like the two of them really needed to have a talk. All these people, these outside factors who influenced the quirks Tess and Cole have weren't brought in at all to resolve them so the issues seem unfinished to me. They're still hiding, they just hiding with each other now. They're still hiding, they just hiding with each other now. That said both characters do undergo some character growth and then there was Kahn who is by far the best character in the book. And yes he's a cat, but anyone whose read Alice Clayton's Wallbanger should know that a cat can totally steal the show in a romance. What Kahn doesn't have the same sort of presence as that legendary cat, he's still an entertaining part of the book's cast. I loved Tess and her quirky facts and Cole's ability to see right through all her defense mechanisms. These two are definitely ranked high on the favorites list in the Harbor City world. I don't feel like everything was resolved at the end of this story, but I enjoyed the journey nonetheless. Definitely recommended. On an off note exactly why did the publisher post an ad for an expired freebie at the end of the book? I preordered this one, read it the it the same day as delivery so its seems like the ad had to be expired before the book was even released which seems kinda pointless. Just saying.

They do something totally out of character and then go their separate ways...until later when Tess has something to tell him. And things get even more complicated after that. Cole's carefully ordered life is about to change in more ways than one. But Tess is used to being temporary and has such insecurities and defenses up. But I loved them together. This is a funny, sexy, and heartfelt love story with an unlikely couple that shake up each other's worlds. It is a pretty common trope but their backgrounds and quirks give it more depth. Their pasts have shaped them and affect their current decisions and thoughts. They are both forced outside their comfort zones and try to let go of their defense mechanisms. But the angst is strong with these two while the communication is not. This was my first book by Avery Flynn and it was enjoyable and easy to follow without being familiar with the other couples, but I am sure that will just make her fans even happier to hang out with them more. They definitely had to run interference and do a few reality checks for their friends. Follow Me: Reviews by Tammy & Kim (Rachel and Jay) | Facebook | Twitter

***ARC received in exchange of an honest opinion*** Although I have other books by Avery Flynn on my TBR list, this is the first one I've read and I must say it won't be the last, because I really liked her writing! The writing was good, the banter was on point, just like the humor, and everything flowed so well! Both the hero and the heroine have had difficult pasts. Tess' past was more difficult than Cole's, but I liked that both of them had issues and they had to work through that. That made the story very relatable and real, which I always appreciate. Tess is nerdy and funny and messy and Cole is the definition of a control-freak, so both of them together is a recipe to disaster. But then Tess is just what Cole needs in his life to bring a bit of flaire in it. And Tess thinks evything in her life is temporary, so she needs a bit of Cole's stability and order in it to make her belive that she can have a good and lasting future. I really liked that this wasn't an insta-love kind of romance and that they had to work for it. I would have liked a bit more in the story, but I was left satisfied. What I would have added though, was a bit more of Tess' relationship with her friends, they seemed awesome, so I wanted more of them. Cole's team was super funny too. Now I'll definitely read more books by Avery Flynn, because this one left a great impression in me!
