Even fictional kings, comic book heroes, and mythical men are included, as figures of our imaginations that have influenced the way we think about men in power. Each short biography shows how each incredible man came to gain fame and renown for his accomplishments and position. Every page includes beautiful photographs and illustrations, showcasing the history of the era in which these kings lived. The book is broken into sections and chapters about Empire Builders, Military Masterminds, Revolutionary Rulers, Kings of Change, Lords of Legend, Kings of Knowledge, and Kings of Creativity. There are actors, musicians, pioneers, naturalists, architects, and athletes all included. There were many names that I recognized, but even more that I had never heard of before. I was delighted to discover all these forgotten men who fought, taught, and sometimes suffered for the good of their people. There are so many accomplished gentlemen whose contributions to history are barely remembered today, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading their stories. There are also the villainous kings included as cautionary tales about how power corrupts and becomes a weapon of evil in the wrong hands. And then there are the fellows who fall in the middle; they did some good, but they also did some bad. They united their country, but they had a lot of people killed. I like how the book writes about all the kings in a balanced way, stating the facts, and letting the reader decide for themselves. This book is wonderfully inspirational, and even includes an afterword that talks about the qualities of a good leader, and encourages the reader to carefully consider what they should do with their power as they get inspired to lead and break new boundaries. Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher via Media Masters Publicity in exchange for a free and honest review. All the opinions stated here are my own true thoughts, and are not influenced by anyone.

National Geographic Kids The Book of Kings is host to some of the men that ruled and conquered in the war, music, gaming, sports and more. Surprisingly, there are some famous women featured here too. Strength in numbers along with silent marches was what Dr. Martin Luther King lead the country with in his fight for justice. As with other highly varied titles published by National Geographic Kids Books, they continue to provide books of high interest subject matter, thoroughly researched, beautifully designed, and critically acclaimed. The following books on Kings and Queens are exceptionally beautiful, interesting, and will bring much to delight and fascinate young readers. Well, let's include the adults in that circle of readers because they, too, will find much to tweak their interest. Well, let's include the adults in that circle of readers because they, too, will find much to tweak their interest. I was totally surprised that National Geographic grouped leaders in a variety of fields as kings or queens. They included those highly successful in the arts, in business, in athletics not just ruling monarchs of countries from the ancient past to present time. This lent a bit of surprise adding success as a key ingredient in becoming recognized as a "royal." I was provided a complimentary copy to review/comment on. About half of this book is dedicated to the Monarchs of the world. Information included: Name of the Monarch, color photograph / illustration, birth & death dates, and a brief narrative about each person. There are sidebars (2-page spreads) of information called "Fit for a King," and cover such topics as: Armour, Formidable Fortresses, Crown Decorations, and more! Interesting and with the addition of the "Kings" who were not tied to royalty, ended up being more than I thought.

I received a free copy of "The Book of Kings by National Geographic Kids," by Caleb Magyar and Stephanie Warren Drimmer through the "Good Reads First Reads Giveaway." Although this book is fact filled and colorful, with beautiful details and images, it is not truly a kid's book, but a reference book for all. This makes it more difficult to read but worthwhile with many useful facts for the reader.
