It wouldn’t be November without covering at least one Holmes book, and this fourth installment of Shelby Holmes was exactly what was needed. This is my favorite one so far as it does a great adaptation of the classic Holmes story, Hound of the Baskerville’s which literally has hundreds of versions across all media. This is my favorite one so far as it does a great adaptation of the classic Holmes story, Hound of the Baskerville’s which literally has hundreds of versions across all media. The preteen setting with a horror slant was done to great effect by having this show genuine scares as Holmes and Watson are hired by their classmate to investigate weird noises in an apartment. Add to the fact that 100 years ago a previous tenant was brutally murdered. The subplots are also interesting with Watson’s mom now dating and Holmes learning how to be more social. Kids and adults will love these books as they give Holmes and Watson a completely fresh look while still keeping what we love about them. The mysteries here are very creative and even if you think you know the solution based on the original story, it still gives a curveball. A sure great gateway to the Holmes stories that anyone will love.

I might be one of the biggest fans of this series (or the oldest anyway, besides Elizabeth’s parents), but I truly adore Shelby and John and their gumshoe adventures. John’s voice brings so much heart, and Shelby’s oddities so much humor. Elizabeth never disappoints with her little “Easter eggs” but I won’t give those away! Each book looks at different aspects of friendship too, and I love seeing the ways our characters grow and change, while still being very much themselves. This is definitely the spookiest story, as Shelby is out to prove that ghosts don’t exist when a classmate is convinced his home is haunted! Is her old enemy Moira Hardy involved? Will John find the courage to face his fear of ghosts - and the possibility of his mom dating? Read to find out! I also loved the way Shelby exposes a fake news article, and helps John learn how to spot inaccuracies online and in news. The trip to the library and use of microfilm is icing on the cake!!

For the observant reader, the clues are all there. The reason for the haunting and the who would benefit most from it. There are also a few red herrings to keep things interesting. I don't know if there is a fifth book planned. If there is, I will definitely read it. http://pussreboots.com/blog/2019/comm...
