I'm translating this to Hungarian. I've found it really informative when read it for the first time on a trip to New Zealand. However it contains just the basics for Maori carving. You will get to know the schools, the tools and the basic imagery of Māori wood carving, but it is not going deeper than that. It is not the best and detailed book I've read about the topic. But in my opinion it is a fine introduction of this area if you are interested in Māori culture.

    1) This book used many, many terms that you were supposed to remember after being defined once and made sections of this book nearly nonsensical 2) Few of the pictures were labeled 3) It pointed out some differences in carving style without saying what these differences meant
