Unlike the other stories I've read in the urban fiction genre that have centered around the lives of African Americans living in an urban setting, Faded Off A Thug featured an Indian American woman as its leading lady. Because of the unique and potentially (since I'm not an expert on the Muslim religion nor the culture of Indians - not Native Americans) authentic storyline it's very clear that the author wanted to portray this character, who was definitely the heart of the story, as clearly and real as she could. Faded Off A Thug was a multicultural story that showed the differences in the way that our heroine Raeya was raised and expected to live by her parents, and how her two best friends China and Simone were raised and the freedoms they had in comparison. Even while we were given the different storylines of Rae's best friends and her fiancé's life, the main story was all about Rae coming into her own outside of her culture and religion. With her finding out who it was she wants to be and what was she willing to do to become that person instead of living a double life and the stress that came with it, in some ways helped me to relate to her character more because we're all striving to be something or do something greater. While I enjoyed the premise of Faded Off A Thug, the execution of it was weak. The story started to go downhill for me when Rae was introduced to Kyler and he thought he could play her as he's done other women he's dealt with. From the very beginning the author did an amazing job of setting up all the great qualities of Rae's character that really helped me become invested in the direction her life could go throughout the pages of this story. But, it pissed me off that Rae's intelligence that was clearly seen was pushed to the side in order for Kyler to be seen as the big man on campus. I felt that certain situations were made to be played out and the strong qualities of Rae's characters payed the price for it because Kyler's character wasn't strong enough to carry them on his own. Kyler, our hero, was very wishy washy and always had a ready made excuse for his every action because he didn't know how to communicate in a healthy way that didn't put down Rae in the process. No matter how big on the streets or in the city of Miami Kyler was, his mentality was weak compared to Rae. He was so used to playing with females who were willing to say and do anything to become his leading lady that he couldn't appreciate the woman that Rae was, nor the fact that she had her own mind and knew what she was willing to tolerate and what she wasn't. Every time he couldn't get what he wanted he had nasty words to say to her and once she didn't beg his forgiveness immediately afterwards, as he was expecting, he would give some half assed apology and think that everything was okay. In actuality, after I got tired of the rollercoaster of Rae and Kyler's relationship I turned my attention to the pure and lovely relationship she had with her only male best friend and forced (that's a story I don't want to spoil for y'all) fiancé. While their story was a complicated one, it carried all the qualities that the relationship she had with Kyler should've had and more. The ending of Faded Off A Thug was bittersweet because while Rae was finally free, in a sense, from Kyler she finally got the courage to face her parents, both her and her fiancé, and express to them how they wanted to live their lives away from their dictates. I actually wanted to clap for them, because of the solidity of their friendship and how no matter what their parents said they still had each others back. That's what friends are for, and if Kyler didn't have his head up his own butt he would've been sitting right next to Rae as she made that call comforting her through it. All in all Faded Off A Thug held my attention to the very end, taught me some thangs, and had me wishing for more. I hated to see it end. I'm really interested to see what book 2 will have to offer because there are so many avenues that this series could take. ***Originally reviewed at Literary Treasure Chest: http://www.literarytreasurechest.com/...

LOVED IT This book was really good. It was different from others and held my attention from the first page to the last. Rae was green to everything yet she was feisty and had a sharp tongue. I loved how she was from India and tried to respect her culture and religion, but all that was put to a test when Kyler comes along. Kyler does no playing and he is a bit bipolar but under that tuff exterior he really likes Rae. Faded Off a Thug is an interesting tale that incorporates elements of multiple cultures and values, while slowly building drama and tension between all of the characters. Raeya is a 21 year old college student from India. Her parents live in New York, and she goes to the University of Miami. Although she is close to her parents, they could not be farther from her. On the outside, everything seems to be going perfect in her life, but on the inside, trouble is brewing due to some long held secrets that are fighting to come out. Kyler is a 24 year old bachelor who is living the fast life. He has everything that he could want – money, respect, and a slew of beautiful women at his disposal. Then he meets Raeya, and his lift begins to take a number of interesting turns. This was a great book. I liked how the author intersected the various cultures of the characters and tried to shed light on the different issues that people face when interacting with someone who is different from them. I also loved how the author left the story off with a true sense of suspense. I’m looking forward to seeing what the next book will bring!

So emotional!!! This book took me through so many emotions. I was laughing, upset and sad. It was crazy how Raeya and her best friend/fiancé Devansh had to deal with from their parents. I liked Simone and Chinaa they were some true friends to have. Monte was a mess and so was Kyler at times. Tasha was a hot mess and got her whole but handed to her🤣 Tera needed to get her life also. What happened to Devansh really had me teary eyed😩 It’s so much to say about this book. Just one click you definitely So emotional!!! This book took me through so many emotions. Good read This was a really good read. I enjoyed watching the couples grow together. Raeya had to realize that she needed to live her life for her and not her parents and Kyler was the perfect man to show her. Simone had many trust issues and I was glad to see Chris stick by her side. Monte and Chinaa seemed like they weren’t going to get it together, but love conquers all. I would recommend this book.

A Great Short Story I utterly enjoyed the fact that this short Street Lit wasn't the average. Having multiple cultures was refreshing and having women with multiple and different characteristics. I also thought that the relationship between Rae and Devanshe was pretty cool !! It showed the struggle that happens daily and in the end how the new generation has to stand up and help rectify and change old traditions. Overall it was sad that his parents chose to disown him and Rae, but I am hoping that in the next book, he and Rae's parents will grow to become more accepting. Watching Rae grow into a more relaxed character was very fun and exciting. I couldn't believe how things went down. Loved how Rae's friends, Chinaa and Simone had her back to the fullest even going as far as to fight her battles. The only thing that disappointed me was how rude Kyler was to Rae... he didn't come off as a Thug, he came off as rude butt head. I was also upset that he wasn't patient enough even after she told him about her complicated situation. It's his loss though. From the way he was explained in the book, he was cute but not THAT cute. I can say overall, this book wasn't at all what I expected and it was a very pleasant surprise. It was shorter than expected, but worth every minute of my time. This story could go many places, book 2 should be explosive, specially since Rae has came out of her shell a little, and judging by the way this book ended... This was a great introduction to this series.

Loved it. I absolutely loved this book. Rae had an innocence that was so cute. It took someone like Kyler to come along and totally disrupt her world. She has some true friends in Chinaa and Simone. They always had her back. I'm curious to see where things are going to go from here.

Good read! This was a good read! It was different from the typical thug love stories. The storyline is great...I like how it highlights the Indian culture as many may really experience that in their lives. To me, ky is still a bit immature and should have been a little more understanding to Raeya's situation ...but it is what it is! Good job!

I like! I hate how Raeya lived her like according to how her parents felt was best...when she finally told them the real I was happy for her, It seems like Kyler couldn't leave that chic Tasha alone but get mad about Rae talking to any other man...I like Simone and Chinaa they are real friends, I also like Kyler right hand he seems like he's really feeling Chinaa...

Good Book This book was good. Raeya was trying to do what makes her happy but her Indian culture has doing what she was raised to do. Kyler is bipolar to me . How you get mad at Raeya because she is following her culture and religion. The book ended to quick. Need pt2 asap.
