Naruto is one of my favorite series. I’ve been following it since it first started when I was middle school. I grew up with this series and these characters, and Itachi is one of my two favorite characters, so how could I NOT love a book that’s entirely about him? I pre-ordered these books the DAY they were announced for an English translation and that excitement and those feelings no doubt bled into my feelings about these books. I pre-ordered these books the DAY they were announced for an English translation and that excitement and those feelings no doubt bled into my feelings about these books. The first book is largely about Itachi’s childhood and his progression through the ranks until he became a member of the Anbu. It goes more into depth about his training, his teammates, and the turmoil he was subjected to from such a young age. It’s a great book for learning more about his background, but I will say what disappointed me was the relationships. Itachi’s love for his little brother is clear but how could you not love that face? Other than Sasuke though, everything else kind of fell to the wayside. Shisui is said to be his best friend and yet they have surprisingly few interactions other than quick glazed over descriptions of “yeah, they train together every day, and they have similar ideals.” And I definitely expected Izumi to have a bigger role… but she’s virtually non-existent in his life. Honestly, it kind of seems like his schoolyard bully got more attention this his closest friend and whatever Izumi was supposed to be. But I did still enjoy hearing more about Itachi, and I love getting a little bit more from a series that ended, especially in the form of learning more about your favorites rather than a new series focusing on their kids.

Okay. So there has been word spreading around that there will be an Itachi Shinden anime adaptation coming out this March. Hearing about it, I heard some contradictory rumors about what's going to happen so I decided that I'm going to clarify a few things. First off, Itachi Shinden is NOT going to have its own anime. The Itachi Shinden is going to be an arc in the Naruto Shippuden anime. Second, I both like and hate this for several reasons. One, since Itachi is one of my favorite Naruto charact Okay. The Itachi Shinden is going to be an arc in the Naruto Shippuden anime. Second, I both like and hate this for several reasons. One, since Itachi is one of my favorite Naruto characters I'm excited to see some pieces of Itachi's life that the series never showed us. Two, this opens up for a lot of opportunities that we haven't seen before. Like his relationship with Shisui, his relationship with his parents, and his time as a genin and chunin. We only see his time as an ANBU. On the flip side, we already seen Itachi's backstory and we have seen enough to know about Itachi's character so this novel seems kind of pointless. But I'm curious to both read the novel and see the anime arc. The only issue I have is this question. Where the hell can you buy this in English? I've looked all over the place and I can't seem to find a way to buy them in English. Are they even selling them translated? I've seen the first two episodes of the Itachi Shinden anime and I'm going to share my thoughts on those at the end of this review. (view spoiler)[I'm probably going to go on a rant here but I have mixed feelings concerning the Itachi Shinden anime. For starters, there are some things that were either mentioned in the novel or the Naruto Shippuden anime that I wanted to see but wasn't there. One of the things I wanted to see was Itachi looking at ruins that described the history of the world. He kept saying that life is born and life dies. The idea of birth and death kept repeating in his head until the question arises in his head, which is ironically the same questions that Sasuke asked the First Hokage. What is a shinobi? What is a village? I was hoping to see him read the history and draw a conclusion of what was really important. He developed the wisdom and understanding of a Kage at this point but I didn't see it in either episodes. I also wanted to see Itachi meeting Shisui for the first time, but when we do see him the episode gives the impression that they had already met. Which is a shame because I thought the whole idea for the Itachi Shinden anime was to show how the pacifist Itachi meets Shisui and because they have similar views they become close friends and that's why they both were the only Uchiha against the coup. Another thing I really liked was scenes with Fugaku. Like Sasuke's birth and the scene where he is in a meeting with the Konoha clan leaders concerning the reconstruction of the village. The scene with Sasuke's birth was really interesting because Fugaku actually smiled. Not a smirk but a genuine smile. When was the last time that we've seen Fugaku smile? None as far as I remember. I also like the clan meeting concerning the relocation of the Uchiha clan. Throughout the anime, as an audience, we've been constantly told of the Uchiha planning a coup against the village but we never actually see it from the Uchiha clan's perspective. I like seeing the small seeds of discrimination being planted that started the Uchiha on the path of hatred to the point where they plan a coup against the village. More scenes like that would be nice. It has to start with little steps because something like that doesn't happen overnight. The problem I see with the Itachi Shinden, at least with the first two episodes, is that it feels rushed. I don't know if it's just me but I felt like the episode was on fast forward most of the time. Like the scene with Shisui. It went by so fast that I almost forgot what happened. There were also some things in the book that were not in the anime (I have not read the book but I've talked to people who have). Like Itachi being aware of the Uchiha clan feeling angered by the Konoha elders distrusting them. For example, in the book there's a scene when Itachi overhears his father's conversation with a few Uchiha clan members and they are discussing about Fugaku not being acknowledged when Minato becomes the Fourth Hokage and the fact that Kakashi has gotten famous because of his sharingan even though he's not of the Uchiha. There's also this Academy graduation ceremony where Itachi graduates at the top of his class and he gives a speech and meets Danzo for the first time. I thought the anime would at least make Itachi's first encounter with Danzo interesting but nope. There are also a couple more episodes that are out that I'm going to see but that review will come some time in May. (hide spoiler)] Sorry for the long rant in the spoilers but those were my thoughts.

A thousand thoughts goes on behind the quiet facet, all we can do is make-do with whatever that was revealed. After reading this, I realised there was not a lot. Every passing moment was depicted as Itachi was experiencing it, starting from when he was four (basically the year he found his purpose for living; I'm 21 and still constantly questioning my life). My favourite scene is his tribulations in the Chuunin Exam, and we get a bit of the strategic battle, Kishimoto style (meaning not just blade slash blade, but some actual wits in the fights) that you'll probably never get anywhere else as far as canon goes. Despite being mostly written in third person narrative, we're awarded with the rich and untold emotions kept concealed behind those aloof eyes, something that we do not get from the manga and anime. Everyone knows he is a genius, but if there's any takeaway, the genius worked for it, but never for the shallow purpose of obtaining the title. Throughout the chronicle, we're constantly reminded of his motivations and the vision he holds for the world, which served as his fuel and drove him nearer to his goal. Although the gifted tends to walk the path of solitude, it becomes evident that his lack of social circle (and woman) was largely because of his er, extreme focus on his goal, and that he genuinely felt there was no need to be chummy to anybody. So yes, the harem that every Fanfic has bestowed upon our god Itachi is absolutely BS and it's pretty much BL between him and Shisui all the way... I'm kidding, but as a giveaway for ruining his lady's man image, there is a girl who he forged a (weak) connection with, though romance being a sub-sub-subplot in the Narutoverse, I was glad there was even a mention of a potential female suitor, and those scarce teasing conversations with regards to that special girl. You have no idea how many times the hopeless romantic in me slapped my forehead and the unhealthy impulse to whip some sense into Itachi's dense head - let's just say this ninja pro has no realm in the art of flirting and picking up girls. I need to give credit for the explanation of the crow's genjutsu (I do not wish to ruin the joy of fans finding that out himself so I'll leave that out) instead of writing it off as a "premonition" to his fate or or simply to make him stand out. Another honourable mention was the exploration of Danzo's character, the memorable initial interaction between him and Itachi (didn't know Danzo was secretly a fortune-teller and mood-damper), and his perspective of Konoha without any tarnishing from a limited third person narrative. He really isn't as bad as he seems, just another socially awkward old man with an eye fetish and keen eye for young talents. Unfortunately the book ended with an ominous cliffhanger, and we're only barely halfway through his life story. On the bright side, you can rest assured that this is a totally different story told from the animated Itachi Shinden conveniently slotted as a Shippuden filler. That means no, "A life is born. A life is gone," slogan, and IMO that's the biggest difference between the two medium, as the novel is a lot more personal goal-oriented than philosophically themed. As I read this in Chinese, I could not give comments on the quality of translations for the fellow English speakers. However, for the Chinese literates, this is top-notch translation comparing it spine to spine against the Japanese copy (yes I own the original copies too, I tend to get a little irrational when it comes to Itachi). Just to end off with two more takeaways - never tell Itachi he's tired (read the book and you'll know what I mean ;]) and this is in no way pointless or redundant. Anyone who said that has either not read the novel or miraculously missed the entire point of the story.

Charting the rise of Itachi from ninja prodigy to potential Anbu recruit (I'm guessing the second book brings things full circle to where he appears in the manga/anime), this insight into Itachi's head is a lot more comprehensive compared to what we get in other media. You can understand where he's coming from, and can see the signs that it's all going to go wrong a lot earlier here. I enjoyed the different ninja fighting styles introduced here; unique styles always make for the best manga/anime Charting the rise of Itachi from ninja prodigy to potential Anbu recruit (I'm guessing the second book brings things full circle to where he appears in the manga/anime), this insight into Itachi's head is a lot more comprehensive compared to what we get in other media. The translation is solid for the most part too, with only a few janky sentences. To be continued, apparently. It's all downhill from here.

I love how we got to see itachi grow up. I'm really excited to continuing the next book. Inn this book we follow Itachi from really young age. We got see how he awoken the sharingan, how he meet shisui, the day sasuke was born. We also follow him through his years from when he started the academy al the way til the anbu. This story was great. Itachi is one of my favorite characters from Naruto. So this was awesome.

Daylight is Volume 1 in Itachi's story. When I bought this book, I thought it was a manga, but when I opened it I saw that it was a novel. Even then, I thoroughly enjoyed it, since Itachi has always been one of my favourite characters in the series. This novel follows his childhood and shows how fast he broke through different ranks. Also, loved the love he had for his brother, Sasuke.

Definetly a very good book. I give it 5 stars because it tells the story of Itachi in a way it is not seen in the anime or in the manga. However, i don't recomend it if this will be the first impression of this character. It'd certainly ruin all the surprises that Itachi still has to show off.

Itachi's character in the series (as pertains to my opinion) predominantly serves to grant us a clear comprehension of the darkness thriving under the Leaf, the self-sacrifice to which a true shinobi is beheld, and to advance Sasuke's storyline. In other words, he was a plot-advancing character, not one of the main protagonists/antagonists like Naruto, Sasuke, Kakashi, or Obito. That might have been one of the reasons for which Itachi was written to be such an objective person, one who thinks with amity in mind rather than a desire to act upon his initial impulses; it was for us, the audience, so we could really grasp how unbalanced a world would be with these "superhumans" who are trained and nurtured to act in the case of war. We were not particularly meant to feel much for Itachi (other than perhaps a small mix of admiration and pity), yet he has become a favorite to a large sum of fans like myself, and I believe this is due to the unprecedented, almost indescribable way through which he was developed as a character: flourishing within the deepest shadows, typically a development that would set the stage for a great villain. This novel captured this development wonderfully, therein heightening my already-great appreciation for Itachi.

Along with his dreams, we get to explore the past of his clan, and the hatred between his clan and the village. We dive into the past, when the nine tails attacked. That was the day rumors started to spread about his clan, and the day Itachi would learn to work harder in everything that he does. Itachi is a born genius with talents incomparable to others. He awakens the sharingan, the special kekkei genkai and dojutsu passed down through the Uchiha clan, after witnessing a terrible pain. His teammate was killed on a mission. Our hero will further develop his powers to be the strongest. He will be called into a higher position in the village. Itachi has to take advantage of this situation, so he can take another step closer to achieving his goal. He will be set on a special mission to be accepted into that position though. The mission will be an assassination mission. There will be many characters who try to help Itachi fulfil his dream, who try so stop him, or even people who try to use him for his talent. “Itachi’s Story Daylight”, an amazingly written story, strongly enforces the idea that the only way to make your dream come true, is to put a lot of work and effort into it. The book also enforces never to give up and to always try your best. Masashi Kishimoto sucks in the readers into the book. He lets the readers have an opportunity to stand in Itachi’s shoes and experience all of Itachi’s emotions along with him. Masashi Kishimoto lets readers relate to Itachi’s situation and feelings. I found myself not only reading the book, but also living out the current situation in the book in my head. Masashi Kishimoto creates a very great visual in the details he uses to write. I felt as if I was standing right next to the characters, watching everything happen right in front of my eyes. “Itachi’s Story Daylight” is exciting, nerve racking, and intense book as you read it. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to have the experience of being next to characters and watching the story play out in your head, people who love watch many conflicts get resolved one by one, and “Naruto” fans. “Naruto” is another series Masashi Kishimoto wrote. I would definitely recommend this book if you would like to escape the reality and your stress for a while. Kaden Kwon

So in order to do this he had to train every day and that is what he did. Many people were afraid of him or just didn’t like him and many other people were inspired by him because of how strong he was at such a young age. I thought this book was like a roller coaster and action packed because since Itachi wanted to be the greatest ninja of all time. He constantly had to keep proving himself to other people which I liked because he took more chances and also made it unexpected which makes you want to read more. An example I have to go with my opinion is how Itachi was going to the chunin exam.( the chunin exam is for beginners or just any ninja who want to become a higher ranked ninja) And when he did the chunin exam and everyone doubted him because of his young age and how he was doing this alone he had to prove himself and that’s what he did he beat the 1st round and the 2nd and the 3rd until he got promoted. I would Probably recommend it to someone who likes a lot of action in their books and also drama because this book has a lot of action in it and the authors told other character’s stories as well which could create more drama.

Itachi will then move on to go to the ninja academy and graduates really early on (he is one of the youngest graduates, graduating at seven years of age). Throughout the book you will see the hardships he faces and what sacrifices he makes for his clan, family, village, and especially his baby brother. I recommend this book very much because as a huge fan of the Naruto series I love Itachi as a character and I think that it is really good. It is a good way of learning Itachi’s back story and learning and seeing how his childhood was. There are episodes that cover his back story, but reading the book is always fun and adventures.

“Itachi had a clear objective: Become the best ninja ever, and eliminate war from this world.” Itachi was the main reason I began watching/reading the Naruto series, so I was very happy when I reached the part of the adaptation of his two novels and decided to read them. For example, if the things that happened on this novel had happened, it would have added so much depth to itachi's character — how he got his sharingan, how he used to be part of a team, and how he treated the girl he kind of liked (he still treated Izumi way better than Sasuke has ever treated Sakura). But the things is that there are few inconsistencies, and a few things that bothered me like Itachi being this super prodigy. While I knew since the beginning he was a prodigy and one of the most powerful members on Akatsuki, I didn't buy the whole thing about him being literally seven and having more brain cells than all of Konoha 11 together. I also didn't like how the anime adaptation tried to picture Itachi on the best light possible, when on this novel it's clear that on his fight for 'peace' he let himself be manipulated by that ugly ass bitch of Danzo. I don't see the Uchiha slaughter the same way anymore and I think Itachi made a lot of mistakes, but Akatsuki!Itachi is superior and it was the best thing of the Naruto series. Every day is missing Akatsuki day.

I stumbled upon a couple of naruto light and dark novels (iN ENGLISH!!) a couple of days ago and of course, was eager to read it. I was expecting this to be in manga format but to my surprise and delight, it's an actual novel and quite a short read too. Here, you can actually have his thought process when he was a child seeing the end of war up to the moment his father declared that they were planning a coup d'etat and boy... it's not fun to see a ten-year-old kid having all this weight on his shoulders. There are a few retcon moments that's hard to miss if you're familiar with the narutoverse such as how come that dude can make his pupils reappear and disappear if it's a byakugan. Byakugan is known for its white pupils. You can't just make it appear and disappear like the Sharingan but anyway... it doesn't affect the plot overall anyway. The thing that strikes me the most in this novel and what I actually was looking forward to was the inner thoughts and the interactions between Itachi and Sasuke.... and it fucking HURTS! The detailed explanation of how much Itachi ADORES and LOVES his brother is just so heart wrenching and it just makes sense why he would do what he'll do in the future.

Itachi is so unique smart strong and he will sacrifice anything for his goals but he will never betray his brother or his village. In the beginning itachi is brought to the war zone of the great ninja war and sees all of the body's pilled up in hills, so itachi wants to end the fighting in the ninja world. In the middle of the book he surpasses the academy and earns the sharigan which is achieved by activating it which is a hard thing to do so the sharigan is a power were you can see there movements. In the end itatchi joins the anbu which is a really advanced ninja police so they are the top of the top. A shinobi genius already as a child. Massive and idealistic dream to accomplish. The ominous tension between the Uchiha clan and Konoha. Burning passion to succeed. Awakened Sharingan to aid him. And an unconditional pride to be Sasuke’s older brother. This was so great! I really enjoyed reading this. As a HUGE fan of Naruto, and Itachi being one of my all time favorite characters, I was super excited to pick this up, along with the second, titled Midnight. I read it in approx. 2 hours. I enjoyed it for what is was, and didn't have super high expectations for it. The major complaint I have for it is that Itachi is portrayed as almost emotionless, and his real only character trait is achieving his goal. I personally don't see Itachi as one dimensional. I feel like he's written in this as what he has always portrayed himself as to others, when I expected to see more of the deep inner workings of his character. It seemed to me that the author wasn't sure how to approach him as a character, so wrote a very basic outside view of him. But regardless, I still enjoyed it.

I loved this book! It was amazing to see Itachi's back story and learn about his past. My only complaint would be that the writing felt a little off. I can't really place it but it bothered me just a little. Though the thing I like about the Author's writing style is that I could see the scenes play out in my mind vividly while reading this which I really loved. I'm so happy I chose this as my 1st Light Novel to read! :) Itachi is my favorite character from the Naruto series & I've always wanted to know more about him. An this first half was so very interesting that I couldn't stop flipping the pages! I need to buy the 2nd book soon. :] P.S. I finished this book on January 3rd, 2018; I take pause breaks to read other books so that why it took me awhile to finish it. But I'm putting this as December 2017 because this book is apart of my 2017 reading list. I bought this originally because I thought it might be a good option to read more of Itachi but it turned out to not be for me, Its basically a point by point replay of his story just before the Uchiha Massacre. The only thing I guess that kinda was new information was the interactions between Sasuke and Itachi from Itachi's point of view. Ultimately, this book was too short for anything to be told in great in detail and short on anything new but I suggest for fans of Itachi & Naruto that you gi I bought this originally because I thought it might be a good option to read more of Itachi but it turned out to not be for me, Its basically a point by point replay of his story just before the Uchiha Massacre. This book is about one of my favorite Naruto character Uchiha Itachi. It's about his childhood and how ahead of the class he was. I was a really smart kid and he learn things really fast. He even surpassed some of the teacher. He was joined into a team with two team mates. they were Tenma Izumo, and Shinko Inari. Later they were killed by a myterious masked man while doing their mission. The masked man let Itachi live because he wants Itachi to join his organization. If you are an Itachi fan like me, you have to read this novel about him. It tells you the story in-depth and makes you wanna shed tears after reading it. There are 2 novels based on Itachi. There is one about the light and the other about the dark. This one tells you why Itachi decided to do what he did and his love for his brother Sasuke. He had a good explanation of what he decided to do and how he regretted it. Reading this book made me love Itachi even more.
