The Robin and the Sparrow: A Poetry Coloring Book

Availability: Ready to download

This is the coloring-book edition of "The Robin and the Sparrow," a book of eleven short poems that I wrote in 1996 to read with my older daughter, who was then three years old. I had all but forgotten the poems until I came across a printed copy in my scrapbook files. I found that I still enjoyed the poems, so I decided to publish them. In this edition, each of the eleven poems is accompanied by a ready-to-color drawing on the page opposite the poem. Also, there are two other editions of The "Robin and the Sparrow:" a full-color book, and a Kindle book. Tips for Coloring This Book: The Robin and the Sparrow comprises eleven illustrated poems. Each poem is on the left page, and each illustration is on the facing page, so each sheet of paper that has an illustration on one side has text on the other. The pages are not perforated, but I believe you will find it easy to open the book so that it lies flat. If you use Crayola pencils, use their set of fifty. This set gives you shades (such as sand and taupe) that you can use as flesh-tones for the six illustrations that depict people, and extra shades of blue, green and brown for the nature illustrations. Try coloring with your weak hand as well as your strong hand. This will give your strong hand a rest, improve your fine motor skills, and force your brain to learn new tricks. Coloring is a great way to put your weak hand to work. Sharpen carefully! If you push the pencil into the sharpener with too much force, the tip will get caught and break. Instead, insert the pencil into the sharpener and use your thumb to press the pencil against the side of the sharpener as you roll the pencil. This should give you a sharp tip without breaking the point. The Robin and the Sparrow is available in a full color edition, both in print and for the Kindle. If you've purchased a copy of the coloring book, you may be able to get a copy of the Kindle edition for free or at a reduced price. You might find it helpful to have a full-color edition to refer to as you make decisions about how to color your copy of this book. I hope you will enjoy "The Robin and the Sparrow."

Coloring Book received courtesy of Goodreads.com giveaway I finally won a coloring book!! I was so excited to receive it in the mail today! The book has 11 original poems written by Dennis Canfield. The page opposite each poem has a drawing that goes with the poem. I belong to an adult coloring group that meets once a month at our library and I'm looking forward to sharing this book with others!

I received this book in a giveaway on Goodreads. It is a beautiful coloring book with beautiful pictures to color. It is truly relaxing and enjoyable. Not only does it provide hours of coloring it has poetry to go with each picture. I love it and for all those adults out there looking for relaxing activities this should be a must purchase.

This book is full of hours of fun. Coloring the pages was fun and relaxing, but coloring the pages with my kids was even better. The poems are fun and cute and while coloring, my kids had me reading them over and over again. Even though we colored it all, we still have hours of fun reading the poems!!!!

The Robin and the Sparrow: A Poetry Coloring Book by Dennis Canfield is a short collection of children's poems accompanied by coloring pages. I received my copy of The Robin and the Sparrow: A Poetry Coloring Book courtesy of Goodreads First Reads Giveaways. The backstory of this book is that the author wrote these poems for his daughter when she was around three years old. I'm glad that I knew that backstory, because the poems themselves are pretty saccharine and simple. I'm glad that I knew that backstory, because the poems themselves are pretty saccharine and simple. I might not have been able to get past that without knowing the backstory. The coloring pages are fairly detailed (good for an adult colorer), but I'm not personally a fan of coloring pages with realistic-looking people, so that was mildly disappointing. The collection is only 11 short poems, so as you can imagine, this was a very quick read for me.

~Disclaimer: I received this book for free in a giveaway~ The problem with this book is the poems are for children and the coloring pages are for teens/adults. They are much to detailed for the level of poetry in here. The poems would be fun for kids. They would probably enjoy them. But the pictures, generally, have too much detail for a kid. As an adult I like coloring in the images, but I have better fine motor skills than a child. Anyway, other than that a great coloring book. If a bit short.

I received this charming poetry coloring book by Dennis Canfield free through a Goodreads giveaway. Dennis' inspiration to write was his three-year-old daughter! And, each of his eleven poems has been paired with an illustration that captures his poetic appeal. My favorite poems are The Robin and the Sparrow, Daddy Day, and Ladybug! While the poems favor younger children, the coloring book provides a great way for older children and adults to interact with a child through coloring! Lovely!

~I received this book (and some pencils too!) in a giveaway~ Cute little book of poems. I like that the pictures are detailed enough to be beautiful, but not so detailed as to make them difficult to color. One page can be done in a relatively short period of time - perfect for when you just need a little break! Some of the poems were definitely directed toward a younger audience (e.g. There is an N on your nose), but others worked just fine for older people too. I won a signed copy of this book and it makes me very happy to have won, I have been hearing about coloring to relax and unwind and I have picked The Robin and the Sparrow picture to try my skills on first. I think it will be fun to read this with my youngest Grandchildren. I think my favorite poem will be the Rocking Chair but then again maybe it will depend on which my Grandkids want me to read the most.

I received these poems as a winner of the Goodreads giveaway. I did not receive the coloring book edition as was indicated in the giveaway. Instead, Dennis sent the full-color edition. The poetry is delightful. The illustrations are uniquely attuned to the poetry. Well done! As the grandfather of 3, 4, and 5 year old girls, I am sure this will be a well used set of poems! Thanks.

I received this book from the Goodreads Giveaways and it is a delightful little coloring book with poetry to go along with the pictures. I also received a pack of colored pencils which was a really sweet touch. The pictures have nice detail without being too overly complicated and the poetry is simple enough for any child to enjoy but, still fun for adults too!

I received a copy of THE ROBIN AND THE SPARROW: A POETRY COLORING BOOK via a Goodreads First Reads giveaway. I particularly liked "The Robin and the Sparrow" and "The Robin's Nest" poems. While I don't consider this an adult coloring book, I do think older children (and possibly teens) will enjoy it.

This is a beautiful book that I won on Goodreads Giveaways. It has children's poems and pages to color that go along with the poems. My daughter was excited to see it arrive in the mail. We have shared the poetry and plan to do the coloring together. What a wonderful book!

Delightful and beautiful. A pensive way to absorb poetry. Drawings are lovely and worth the time to color. The poetry is simple, natural and true. Good for older children and adults. Very glad that I won this book in the Goodreads giveaway!
